Hockey, Dragic is a poor example. He's a couple inches taller and probably 20 lbs heavier than Tyus. He's a big PG and more athletic than you give him credit for.

I'm huge on b-ball IQ and knowing how to play the game. Tyus certainly seems to have a natural PG feel for the game, in terms of when to look to score versus looking to pass and just decision making in general. I like his Asst/TO ratio for example.

But when I see a 44 FG% on 2-point attempts combined with a mediocre size/athleticism profile and questionable defensive chops, it's a red flag for me. Could he grow into a capable backup? I suppose so. But I want my mid to late 1st rounders to at least have the potential to be starters in this league. I don't see that with Tyus Jones.

I was also thinking that Dragic might not be good comparison since quick first step, size and above average athleticism were supposed to be his strengths as a rookie and shooting and decision making were listed as weaknesses.

What about Jameer Nelson as ceiling comparison for Tyus? He is small, were not superb fast or athletic but was good floor general and shooter and was selected once even for all star game.

I'd rather get the best player available with our first 2nd rounder and then stash a guy overseas with the second one, as we know Flip doesn't want to bring in three rookies in addition to the possibility of Bjelica.

I would trade two seconds for Nelson 2.0. Second round picks bust all the time. With our roster full it makes total sense to move back up and get a second first.

Also with Jones, I think the kid has the clutch gene if you believe in that stuff. He shows up in big games and has shown the ability to close out. I think he will be a solid contributor for a long time, maybe not a star or a starter, but a quality player in the league.

Not a big fan of the idea of there being a "clutch" gene*.

I guess my point with the comparison on Dragic was that he's not going to beat teams with his athleticism. He's crafty and clearly learned a lot from Nash over in Phoenix. If we're going the route of Jameer Nelson, then how about Ty Lawson? Lawson is smaller and his skill set doesn't jump off any pages, but he's a great floor leader and all around solid performer. The reason he dropped to 18 in the draft was because of 1) size, 2) age, and 3) his skill set wasn't elite. The kid got it done on the big stage though, and he clearly had an NBA skill set. Now I'm not as convinced about Tyus as I was Lawson, but Tyus is also 18 years old and still carries a lot of upside.

There may not be a clutch gene, but clutch performers are very much real. I've been witness to it many times.
