Draft prospects - Who do we want?
Re: Draft prospects - Who do we want?
"Physically, Mudiay plays a Westbrook style game" --- OK. But then we have two raw projects in Lavine and Mudiay, and still no help up front. Question, can Mudaiy play off the ball like the Greek Freak, or would we use a lottery pick for a backup?
Does he play defense? I'd like him better if he was more like Oladipo or the Freak

I still like the prospect of trading the rights to Mudiay to the Sixers for one of Noel, Embiid, or Okafor if they land the top pick. If they are indeed having issues with Embiid, it wouldn't hurt to try. They might even like someone else in the draft who could get that trade done if Mudiay is gone by our pick.

Wouldn't trade that pick for Embiid or Noel.

In that situation, I'd rather use Mudiay to trade down a couple picks to get Johnson + something if possible. Or just keep Mudiay.

Johnson is not better than Noel or Embiid by a wide margin and we need the best players we can get.

How in the world do you figure that? Noel's been a slight disappointment this year mainly because of his inefficiency on offense. Embiid has issue after issue whether you want to recognize it or not.
Johnson has an NBA body RIGHT NOW at the age of 18. He's a superb defender and a versatile/efficient scorer, although he's no future scoring champ. Plays winning style of basketball and would fit tremendously with Rubio, Wiggins and Dieng.
I can see why you like Embiid over Johnson IF you disregard the red flags. But I'll take Johnson over Noel every day of the week.

Re: Draft prospects - Who do we want?
The Sixers are a good defensive team and they are 5.2 points better defensively with Noel on the floor. Offense always takes longer to develop for bigs so the fact that he'll already have playing time under his belt when we would get him helps. Noel is going to be a 2 steals and 2 blocks a night type defensive talent which is what we need next to Pek and would make us a terror next to Dieng. This is Noel's rookie year and he is still underweight so as he bulks up more he will become a defensive force to be reckoned with, only he will be that force at the rim and Johnson will be that force on the perimeter. If guys like Towns get boosts for how they would play with Ricky, I don't see why Noel doesn't get that boost. Noel is very athletic and active (he averages 2.2 offensive boards per game) and that is what everyone says thrives next to Ricky. I think the biggest thing for me is we would get him at 21 years old with experience under his belt. That is more valuable to our team bouncing back next year quicker than adding another 19 year old on the wing. Noel has a chance to plug several of our big holes (rebounding, PnR defense and defense at the rim) whereas Johnson fills one (perimeter defense). When the difference is between 19 and 21, I don't think that is a big enough gap where we need to go with the inexperienced youth for the future of the franchise. Noel is just going to be more ready to contribute next year and still has a ton of time on his side to develop moving forward.

Re: Draft prospects - Who do we want?
It may technically be his rookie year, but it's his second year of NBA service so we'd be getting a guy going into his third year. A third year Noel or a rookie Johnson? I also think it's harder to find a two-way wing instead of a defensive big. What separates Noel from Gobert? Maybe we should just call Utah up and ask for Rudy instead since he's essentially Noel with more length + a year of age.
It's starting to look like we have one two-way wing in Wiggins. If we added another who could play the 3 (Johnson's a chiseled 245 lbs), that would be more beneficial to our future, imo. Rubio-Wiggins-Johnson gives you three good/great defenders to stifle any team's perimeter attack, and I'd hope it'd make Dieng's job that much easier on the back end.
It's an interesting debate, though. Noel vs Johnson. I think we could find a similar player to Noel (perhaps not as good) in most drafts, but good wings are so hard to find I'd jump on one that I liked.

D'Angelo Russell continues to make a case for himself in breaking into the Top 3. He had an efficient 33, 7, and 6 game last night and threw another highlight-reel pass that suggests he's got some special talent.
Check these two clips out if you haven't seen them (the second one is from last night's game):
