Hasn't been executed properly recently either. Corey's been clumsy, some of Love's passes have been short too. Teamshave adjusted more than I thought, though.

Even though we do give up a high field goal percentage, we don't make the mistake of fouling the other team and giving them easy points. We give up the least amount of foul shots as a team overall.

I was thinking the same thing as I was reading this thread, tpoff. There is a choice between contesting shots or avoiding fouls. Pek and Love have decided to concentrate on the latter. I don't know...it would be nice to see a Wolves center make a hard foul once in awhile. It discourages opponents from driving to the basket. I think we will see more of this when Turiaf returns.

We talk about a rim protector a lot here, and I think the common perception is that a classic rim protector is an athletic freak that can jump and swat balls away...you know, like an Anthony Davis. I would argue that a less athletic, but more physical center can also be an effective rim protector by discouraging penetration. Dieng fits in to the first category, and Turiaf fits into the second. Pek and Love will never fit into either category, but obviously deserve the most minutes because of their elite scoring and rebounding. But we need to understand and accept that our field goal percentage against is going to suffer with the two of them as our center and PF.

Likely not. Also, didn't Sanders just sign an extension worth 11-12M per year? Seems unlikely that we could do that without giving up Pek to a third team. And yes, I know about fit, but Pek has more value in my eyes than Sanders does. I'd need a first rounder or something else thrown in.

Rim protection is not the only problem when it comes to FG% Against. We are pretty much below average from everywhere on the floor. But it's at the rim where we are dead last in opponent FG% and that drives our overall ranking of being last in the league.

But despite that, we have the 10th ranked defense in the NBA because we give up so few free throws, do a good job on the defensive glass, and create a lot more turnovers than we give up. When you limit your opponents' shot attempts and don't give them free throws, that counts as "good defense".

Still, it seems pretty unacceptable to me that we're dead last in opponent FG%. If we were just average, or even slightly below average, we'd probably be a top 5 defense because of the other things we do well. Why Adelman hasn't been sprinkling in minutes for Dieng is beyond me.

The other day when I was looking through some stats I noticed something. Dieng is the league leader is blocks/min. Sure, he hasn't played that many minutes, but it shows that he affects the game when he is in. Unfortunately, he's wayyyy down the list on blocks/foul.

Rookie big men almost always struggle with fouls. Part of it is just learning how to play NBA defense and part of it is the officials not giving them any slack. The more he plays, the better this will get.

I don't care if Dieng comes in and gets fouls. At least he'll come away with a couple blocks and some messages sent that the rim isn't wide open. He gets 6 of them for goodness sake! Let him use them.
