Pacers are a legit contending team. This game shows we are not on that level. playoff team? maybe, but not a threat.

Think Adelman sent the starters a message. Making them play til the buzzer.

Why did the Wolves lose? Well, our shooting was horrific. Love continues to shoot like a guy who shouldn't be shooting. Martin continues his up and down pattern. Corey was Corey.

But I'm not going to pin it on our shooting. So why did we lose? Defense - or the lack thereof. The Pacers shot over 50% from the field, including over 50% from behind the arc. That's the second game in a row where our opponents have shot over 50%. Typically, we start to see what NBA teams really are after the first month. I think the Wolves are starting to confirm what many of us thought they were when the season started -- i.e., a jump shooting team that, with the exception of Ricky, doesn't defend well.

If we don't outscore our opponents with jump shots, then we'll typically lose. And I've always been annoyed by the refrain from the Wolves organization about good team defense making up for the absence of good individual defenders. They oversell that point in a big way. You need good individual defenders to defend well as a team. We have one really good defender, Ricky, and fairly good but somewhat overrated defender in Brewer.

As it stands, the Wolves are, at best, a 7th or 8th seed and there's a good chance this team won't make the playoffs. So what do we need to secure a playoff spot, maybe get the 6th seed or better and eventually become a contender? Three things:

1. At least one player in the starting line up (SG or SF) who can break down defenses effectively off the dribble and score going to the hole;

2. A true rim protector and another good defender at the wing position in the rotation; and

3. Another scorer in the rotation off the bench.
