I'll flip that around, Khans (pun intended). If the wolves were at full strength and playing a team that was missing three of their best players, and they didn't blow the other team out, I would be terribly disappointed. The Wolves are doing exactly what I expect them to be doing right now.
Re: Flip is a huge dissapointment
I think Flip has proven himself to be a very good head coach over the years. With only a couple exceptions, the team's he's coached have generally won and, I think, achieved their full potential during the regular season. The circumstances in Washington convince me he deserves a pass for the performance of the Wizards while he was there. And i also think he's shown the ability to coach young teams, as evidenced by his success coaching the young Wolves with Garnett and Marbury.
I still think the jury is out on Flip as GM. I think he seriously overvalued Thad and Mo. Thad has always been a poor rebounder and marginal defender. Mo has always been a terrible defender and has worn out his welcome with a lot of teams. I think Flip also made a mistake re-signing Budinger, Martin and Pek to the terms he gave them given their past performance, injury histories and defensive shortcomings. I think he made a mistake choosing Shabazz over the Greek Freak. Yet, I think Dieng and LaVine were good picks and I like the way he handled the Love situation.
So we'll see. Because of his track record, I have to give Flip the benefit of the doubt as a head coach given the caliber players he's had available most of this season. In fact, recall that we were playing well before Ricky went down. And then we lost Martin and Pek. I honestly think Flip is more susceptible to criticism as a GM. But even on that front, it's too early for me to judge.
