Pek trade ideas
Re: Pek trade ideas
Why would the Sixers want Pek? His contract does not mesh with what they are doing right now. Noel and Pek wouldn't work for the same reason Dieng and Pek won't work (at least conceptually) with both operating in the paint on offense. Thad Young could be easily had if we are willing to trade our pick this year which I hope we do not do.
Eric Gordon would be the most realistic because the Pelicans don't like his contract and an offense with Davis who can shoot in mid-range and Pek in the paint would be amazing, not to mention Davis being an outstanding rim-protector. Gordon doesn't make a ton of sense for us although having him start and Martin playing off the bench would be nice. I think he is the best player we could get although having both Martin and Gordon as major health risks would be frightening.
I would tolerate a deal like this
Pek and Moute (or Shved) for Gordon, Anthony Morrow, and Pierre Jackson
Fill's our depth at SG nicely as well as getting an exciting prospect in Jackson
or just keep Pek and have a killer three man rotation in our frontcourt...

But I haven't seen or come up with a realistic deal that would land that sort of SG in exchange for Pek. I also agree that SF is the natural position for Brewer and Budinger. Both are pretty poor ball handlers and both are pretty one-dimensional. We are loaded with mediocre SFs. I would think that we will let Hummel go. I'd like to think we could get some value for Budinger. I'd like to keep Brewer. He's a gamer.
Yes, I agree with all your points, Lip. I know you and others were critical of some of the deals Flip made last summer, perhaps because you saw then that we were stocking up too many SFs at too high a price point. I suspect Flip bought the premise that Muhammad, who played some SG in college, could also be a SG in the pros, and I bought into that too. Actually Howland convinced me in his Barreiro interview post-draft, when he answered strongly yes when Dan asked him if Shabazz could be an NBA SG. I also saw Williams (who became Luc) as a PF, and I disregarded Hummel, so we had only two real SFs on our beginning of year roster in my eyes. I was wrong. And as a result, Flip is hamstrung now on what to do in the offseason. I share your appreciation of Brewer and your hope that Bud might have some trade value. If Flip were able to move Bud, I would be on board with a Pek for Deng swap, but absent that, I'm concerned about adding to a position where we are already locked in with too many players.
Re: Pek trade ideas
Nikola Pekovic to CLE for Dion Waiters and Anderson Varejao?
Re: Pek trade ideas
Really, does anyone really believe we could get Deng back for Pek? Eric Gordon maybe, because both players are injury prone with bad contracts
Re: Pek trade ideas
13/14 14/15 15/16
Eric Gordon $14,283,844 $14,898,938 $15,514,031 $0 $0 $0
Nikola Pekovic $12,100,000 $12,100,000 $12,100,000 $12,100,000 $11,600,000
So, can we make this work?

Pek is more valuable than Eric Gordon because of what he adds when combined with A Davis. and that would make a direct competitor better while only mildly making us better. (Gordon is more injury prone & has a worse contract too). I would prefer Cleveland as a trade partner unless we could bring a 3rd team into the mix along with NO, maybe get them to send out Ryan Anderson & change to a team that sends us a solid wing in return?

Volans--
or just keep Pek and have a killer three man rotation in our frontcourt...
might still be the best option

Re: Pek trade ideas
I would love to see us trade our first round pick and Pek in a sign and trade for Gordon Hayward.
