I have no issue with this, Ricky is worth that much imo and if people think he'll take less just because "we overpaid Pek" they are delusional.

And I think those that think Ricky deserves $48M are off their rocker. I fully understand utilizing comparisons like Lawson to determine value, but I would also be very cautious to pay a guy that the majority on this board consider the 10th-15th best PG that much money. Sometimes, the best decision is to walk away. Lawson is not worth $48M either.

And while Pek doesn't fit our system, he is still firmly in the 6-8 range of centers in the NBA. Good skill set with a defensive 4 next to him....as we all know. Potentially even worth $12M in the right system.

Ricky will be a RFA. The chances of a contender stealing him away from us are 0%. Ricky's not going to play out the QO, just as nobody in recent memory in the league has done so. This is a business and Ricky will be a Wolf for the foreseeable future whether he wants to be or not as that is what the new CBA has allowed teams to all but guarantee with RFA status. Ricky has 2 choices and that is to play out the QO or become and RFA. If he chooses the latter, he will be a T Wolf for 5 more years (counting next year) no matter what offers he gets. Just ask Batum and Gordon (NO). They tried to get out and the teams made the business decisions to keep them just like we will with Ricky. If you let emotions run your business in this league, you will never be a successful organization.

Lawson's not worth $48M? Yikes. Your sense of worth in the NBA is a bit off, Hicks. Lawson looks like a big time value contract for Denver.

There are several Point Guards around Rubio's level in the Playoffs right now, guys in the 10-20 range of point guards. Conley ($8mil), Teague ($8mil), Lowry ($6mil), Calderon ($7mil), Chalmers ($4mil), Hill ($8mil), Lin ($8mil average). You could even throw in another playoff quality team and add Dragic (7mil). Those are guys not on their rookie contracts, so it excludes Beverley, Lillard, and Walker who are getting paid significantly less.

Looking at that list, if you are paying Rubio north of $10 million, you're almost guaranteeing mediocrity because he needs to be surrounded with very good players. At best, he's a 3rd wheel, but that might be a stretch because he's so difficult to utilize in 4th quarter situations.

Thank you kms. This is articulated well. And Cam, I fully believe Lawson is overpaid at $12M per. Just because the owners have gone absolutely insane when it comes to handing out high $ deals doesn't mean they are right. Is he a good PG, absolutely. He is in that 8-10 range for PG IMO. Very good, but not elite. You don't pay non-elite players $12M per IMO. If you do, you will never be able to afford the necessary players to move your team to that next elite level. And to kms's point, Ricky has such a defined skillset, that you literally need every other player he plays with to be an above average total player....and those players cost money. Money that won't be available to you if Ricky is making $12M per. Why? Because the talent necessary doesn't currently exist on this team, and we need to go outside to pay for it. Meaning, we need to be WELL below cap to do so....which isn't happening.
