When I opened this thread, I was betting that you were talking about the Rambis hire.
Re: David Kahn's lone triumph was actually a huge mistake
Leads the league in steals
leads the league in assists per 48 minutes (6th overall total)
2nd in the league in "hockey assists" IE the passes that lead to assists
Wolves outscore opponents 8 points per 48 minutes
leads the league in rebounds for PG's
Great information, Thanks

His confidence is at an all-time low and opponent PER has gone way up this year. Maybe there is more to it than just saying Adelman is infatuated with Barea. I mean we have a HOF coach, who has a history of players saying he was their favorite coach. There are probably two sides to the story
Boy, I know Ricky has had his ups and downs this season, but what I see is gradual improvement. He's at career highs in assists, assist/TO ratio, steals, rebounds, 3PT%, FT%, and net On/Off numbers. That doesn't sound like a player whose confidence is shot.
Also, the idea that there were 5 or 6 other PGs that were better than Rubio is a bit dubious. I will give you Stephen Curry and Ty Lawson. But after that, it gets murkier. I for one would not want Brandon Jennings in a million years over Ricky Rubio. Holiday is good, but is he really that much better than Rubio? After Curry, Lawson, and may be Holiday, I can't say there is another PG in that draft I would rather have over Rubio.
The other thing to remember is that most of these guys have had two additional years of NBA seasoning over Rubio. Ricky probably still has a bit of upside left. He has been gradually improving this year in a number of areas.

As much as I hate Kahn, I still think trading Miller and Foye for the 5th pick was a coup. Alex, thanks for the Rubio stat summary. His shooting hurts him so much in many stat evaluations, like per, that I sometimes forget how much he contributes to the team. Not to mention he's a lot more fun to watch than Miller/Foye.

David Kahn was the worst GM ever in the NBA and arguably in world professional sport.
To me his last move sums up his reign as Wolves GM: Trading away a future 1st to trade Wesley Johnson to PHX (who he drafted a 4 the year before) to clear cap to sign AK to a two year 20 mil contract (with a second year player option in which AK opted out and signed with the nets). That is just pure idiocy.
The guy just didn't have a clue. If anything could have gone wrong with him, it did!
The ghost of David Kahn will linger for a few more years yet. Hopefully Flip can get this ship back on course.

As much as I like the steals he gets, what about the fact that opponent PER continues to go up against him? His Opp PER was 16.4 his rookie year (pre-knee injury), 18.6 last year, and an astounding 20.1 this year. That's just terrible and it helps explain why this team is in 10th place in the west despite career years from a top-5 player and a top-5 center

By the way, I'm only about 80% serious in this thread. I tend to play devil's advocate when it comes to Rubio, just because I feel like he is the only player that gets a free pass on this team when it comes to the fan base. It's good discussion regardless and this board is top-notch for civil discourse

I think it's a bit harsh to blame Ricky for this years underachieving. The starters are winning their matchups most nights. Unfortunately our bench couldn't match it against most of the D League teams. That is the problem not Ricky's play.

I would guess it has something to do with how opponent PER is calculated (how is it calculated?). If all they do is look who Rubio is defending and use that player's PER I could see it going up although I don't know if it would explain the 4 point increase.
Our bigs this year aren't real good in pick n roll situations so PG's can get off some pretty open looks or even open layups. If situations like that land squarely on Rubio when calculating the stat that's one reason it's gone up. Also I think a pretty strong argument can be made that the team has become less defensively orientated the last 3 years. While guys we've had the previous 2 years like AK47, Stiemsma, Chris Johnson, Gelabale, Darko, Wes, Webster, Randolph, and Lee had a lot of faults, they were still better overall individual and team defenders than our current group.
