To be fair the wizards had no leverage. Porzingis could just opt out of his contract and they would get nothing. They got Tyus in the trade. So that is something. Now can Prince get us Monte Morris in a trade?Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 11:35 pmI agree that the Celtics did really well in this deal getting Porzingis AND two first round picks for Smart. But I think Memphis did well also. Marcus Smart will make Memphis better. He fits their culture of toughness and he’s a winner. He also helps fill the gap created by Ja Morant’s suspension. I’d call this a win-win. The only loser in the deal is the Wizards. But they were in a tough spot because Porzingis could have walked as a free agent.Crazysauce wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 11:23 pm Celts get zingis and two first rounder for marcus smart. It’s interesting to see how the good front offices always do well. Boston and Memphis are two prime examples of high quality smart front offices. The Wizards front office is the opposite.

Huge win for the Celtics. Porzingis and two firsts is insane, plus Celtics benefit by allowing Derrick White to start at point guard. Celtics fans are loving this deal plus many worry that Smart will age poorly with his style of play. I thought White was better than Smart and he'll be getting more minutes now. I'm not sure this is a good deal for Memphis. They give up two firsts and lose reliable Tyus. Without Ja for 25 games, I think Memphis will have a tough time making the playoffs as other Western teams improve like OKC.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 11:35 pmI agree that the Celtics did really well in this deal getting Porzingis AND two first round picks for Smart. This deal is better than the first 3 way for the Wizards IMO. Tyus probably has more value than Morris (shorter contract) and they got a slightly poorer draft pick.kekgeek wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 11:48 pmTo be fair the wizards had no leverage. Memphis gave up a lot for Smart but with contracts going up if Smart stays effective for the length of the contract this might be a really solid move.
Meanwhile the Wizards now have 2 PGs the Wolves could target. Wolfson’s “Scoop” is a little more interesting now. Lol
Re: Around the League - Draft and Trade News
The Celtics are just a machine when it comes to drafting/acquiring talent. I know they haven't been able to break through for a title in recent years, but they are perennial contenders and I'd argue the deepest team on the planet. The fact they had the luxury of trading former DPOY Marcus Smart because they basically had another guard that has the same skill-set in Derrick White is pretty crazy.
Re: Around the League - Draft and Trade News
CP3 to the warriors
Poole, 1st and a 2nd to the wizards
Poole, 1st and a 2nd to the wizards
Re: Around the League - Draft and Trade News
I love the trade for the Warriors. CP3 makes the Warriors title contenders and Jordan Poole is one of the most overpaid players in the NBA. By the time the first round pick is due (2030), the Warriors core will be long gone and Washington might get a top ten pick, but its a long time to wait.
Re: Around the League - Draft and Trade News
The Beal trade is complete. The wizards got 6 2nd round picks and 1st round pick swaps on 24,26,28,30
Re: Around the League - Draft and Trade News
That’s a pretty good return for a player whose quality of play really has declined and who has a no-trade clause. I think it bodes well for the return the Wolves could get for KAT who doesn’t have a no-trade clause, is more of a unicorn than Beal, and who, if healthy as he was two years ago, is still at the top of his game at age 27.
Re: Around the League - Draft and Trade News
It might simply be a trade that’s good for both teams. After looking very promising Poole…didn’t look so good and will be paid to be VERY good. Washington can live with overpaying him if that’s the case. All in all that’s a good return for Chris Paul and the good news is GS doesn’t need to play Paul a bunch in the regular season. If I remember right GS really likes Moody so they already have another young guard to help replace what the lost in Poole. Now…can they keep Draymond around?KG4Ever wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 2:36 pmI love the trade for the Warriors.
