Gallo to the Brew City Bucks. I'm assuming buyouts might pick up during the all star break or shortly after so guys are playoff eligible.
Such a brilliant move by the Bucks. They're a team that can shoot but can't defend, so they went out and got...
a guy who can shoot but can't defend
I’m just happy he didn’t end up on the Clippers
Yeah, glad the Clippers didn't get him. Of course, we'll be seeing Gallo in our first game after the All-Star Break!
NBA rules require the Wolves to add a player by next Wednesday, so we will have a new face on the roster for our next game. Who's it gonna be?!?
You would think Marcus Morris will arrange his buyout this weekend so he can be added to our roster. But if that does not happen, then what? My best guess is the Wolves add a guy on a 10-day contract. It would fulfill the rules and give the Wolves a free look at someone. Joe Harris maybe? Bring him in and see if he can still shoot in practice...

Sounds like Marcus Morris is leaning to sign with the Wolves, according to the PatBev pod/hoopshype
For some reason I've always disliked Morris Sr. Maybe it's because of his multiple assault charges off the court. But now that signing him seems imminent, I researched the reason for the assaults...and they actually seem justified. I'm over it. He has been good enough to start several games in recent years at PF for good teams (and might have started at PF for us tonight if we had signed him over the weekend). Let's do it.
I went back and read some about that assault incident. They were acquitted and regardless that was around 9 years ago that it happened. I don’t really know if the Morris twins are particularly good human beings or not but they have always had a bit of edge to them on the court and the Wolves could use some of that. We will see if he actually comes here. I don’t think he has even been waived by the Spurs yet.
The Morris brothers sure seem to be assholes.
But I'm long past the point of assuming any of these guys are great human beings off the court. We simply have NO idea. So, I try to judge them solely as basketball players and consider the rest largely irrelevant.
So, upon further review, Marcus Morris has a sizeable contract at 17+ mil. Everyday he puts off the buyout is more $s in his pocket. Assuming he still wants to be on the Wolves' playoff roster, he can keep getting paid until March 1st, at which time he must consummate his buyout. I wouldn't expect Marcus on the Wolves roster until early March.
But, per the CBA, the Wolves most add somebody by this coming Wednesday. I wonder who that could be, and whether it will be a rest-of-season contract, or merely a 10-day contract.
Any guess on who we add? Joe Harris? Or maybe convert Garza?

I hadn’t thought of that Tim but considering that it definitely makes sense he wouldn’t do a buyout before the All-Star break for sure. As for 10 day contracts it seems like teams up against the cap etc often sign a rookie to a 10-day I think they are slightly cheaper. 10 day contracts are nice chunk of money for whoever gets them. Seems like signing someone to one could even be some sort of a favorable thing to do for a player. I’d wonder if they would give someone a deal from the Iowa Wolves.
Now I’m trying to remember if a 10-day contract counts towards NBA service time although I assume it would. If so that would be great for a player to get 1 year in as it could mean a few hundred thousand more each time they sign a vet min deal.
Tomorrow is the two-week anniversary of the Monte trade, although the actual consummation of the trade didn't happen until Thursday. The Wolves must add somebody to the roster.
Since Marcus Morris hasn't been waived, I wonder if the Wolves might go ahead and convert Garza. A lot of teams with an extra roster spot have taken the path of converting one of their 2-way players to fill that spot.

Educate me....what would be the advantage of converting a 2-way player to fill the roster spot? I thought it was an advantage to have guys on 2 way deals so they are not plugging up a roster spot. If we need to add another player to active roster to meet the minimum, why not just do some 10 day contracts to test out a few guys floating around out there while we wait for the right guy?

Well, converting Garza would only be done if the Wolves were convinced Garza should be part of the team next year. Otherwise, you are right. A 10-day contract is the way to go while they wait for Marcus Morris.
On a side note, we can take DJ Carton out of the running for one of those 10-day contracts. From Shams:
The Toronto Raptors are signing guard DJ Carton to a 10-day contract out of the NBA G League’s Iowa Wolves, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Carton is averaging 18.6 points and 5.7 assists for Iowa this season.

Ahhh - thanks for update on Carton. Good luck to him. That's what I hope the Wolves do...pluck some of the best unsigned guys off other teams G-League teams and give them a look until (or if) another guy we really want comes available like Morris.

Dang. I kind of knew he'd end up elsewhere ultimately because a) he's deserving of a shot; and b) the Wolves have PG covered now with Conley, Morris, and McLaughlin. All are safe hands and professional NBA PGs. But Carton has a bit more juice as a scorer - at least potential-wise - so I am very interested to see how he does with Toronto.
