It's so crazy because for everything that Jelly Fam failed to become, somehow he turned out to be the most successful one. Major props to Naz

I'll let WW give us the NYC story, but since there is a double Minnesota connection, I'll add the local angle. Isaiah Washington was a highly rated point guard from Harlem, and he patented a unique finger role shot he called "jelly"...basically faking a dunk and instead finger rolling. A bunch of city AAU guys formed around him and called themselves the Jelly Fam.

The local angle? Richard Pitino was able to convince Washington to come play for the Gophers, and there was much hype about his arrival. Unfortunately he never lived up to the hype, and only started in a few games during his two years in Minnesota. I think he later had similar lack of success playing for Daddy Pitino at Iona. No idea where he is now.

The other connection of course is Naz, who I believe might be the only member of the Jelly Fam that has made it to the NBA.

They were a crew of local kids who like FNG said, popularized a fancy layup here. Isaiah Washington and Ja'Quaye James (Juelz Santana's nephew) are the co-creators and they'd bring other kids into this club who could perform a jelly layup 3 times in a game. Sid Wilson, Jordan Walker (not the baseball player), Jahvon Quinerly, Mimi Reid (no relation), Pedro Marquez, Leondre Washington, Louis King and Naz Reid. After a while, the group got love for their branding and how they looked (because Kyrie Irving, Ja Morant, etc. loved how it looked and would do it themselves in games). The branding aspect led to Paul George stealing a design that Jelly Fam trademarked for his Nike line (Cam'ron, a famous rapper was the one who trademarked it and the name)

There was a lot of hype because Isaiah was a Mr. Basketball, Naz and JQ were All-Americans and they were all locals. That and everyone but Ja'Quaye got major D1 offers (he never stood a chance at 5'9'' of being much of anything but he had the financial backing and street cred that made Jelly Fam so popular. NBA players would fight to watch them play in tournaments here in the city and they'd be packed).

The big issue came when Isaiah Washington fizzled out at Minnesota for the same reason most of them failed: the jump shot sucked. Now he plays overseas. Sid Wilson transferred from UConn and became a vagabond. Most others just transferred over and over and are just happy to have gotten a degree. Quinerly had a solid tenure in Alabama, but now he's almost 25 and just used up all his college eligibility. Louis King and Naz Reid underwhelmed at Oregon and LSU. Both went undrafted. Both got 2-way deals. Louis King has played a total of 27 games and now plays in Puerto Rico. Most of his time was spent in G League. Naz was heading that way til he shined in G-League and worked on his body and his game. He's become the one shining light of that entire situation. Given that JellyFam was mostly guards and wings, Naz being a center and part of that crew just seemed odd and he didn't get nearly as much pub as the other guys, so him succeeding at this level is just awesome.
