How did Connelly get the Spurs interested in this deal? That pick is 7 years from now! Ant will only be 29, it's not likely to be a great pick. I'm can't fathom what just happened.

Its two picks that the Spurs control now. 7 years is a long time and Spurs have two shots to get a great pick. Spurs are a patient organization and anything can happen--Ant could leave or be injured and Gobert and KAT will likely be gone or washed.

That trade is a straight up bet that by the time Ant is about to turn 30, we'll be terrible, possibly because we'll have traded him by then because we couldn't maintain a contender for such a long period of time (which is often the case). Or at least it's a bet that other teams will think so too, because they may want to trade that to help Wembanyama, who is basically ready to win really soon. It's also a bet that this draft is not that great. Still, with the flattened lottery odds, in a total vacuum, that trade doesn't look to make a lot of sense for the Spurs.

Conley was only 10 pounds heavier coming out of college, but he was 10 pounds heavier. . And Conley has a significantly bigger wingspan that Dillingham. So we’ll see. I still really like the move and the pick. But I still would have preferred Devin Carter or Carlton Carrington.

When our standards were "for the love of God can we just make the playoffs!?" Billingham would be a home run. When the standards are trying to win a title, small-ish guards are kind of a problem late in the playoffs. He absolutely needs to add weight.

Yes, and that’s my concern, Q. Trading up to #8 we could have drafted Devin Carter, Nikola Topic or Carlton Carrington. All three have terrific offensive skills but also have the size to compete defensively in the NBA. The more I reflect on this the more troubled I am by pick.

You’re overreacting.

Dillingham at worst should be judged in comparison to Carter, but keep in mind. Kentucky guys almost always pan out. Trust in Calipari’s pedigree.

One thing interesting about this trade up for Dillingham is that the Wolves have at times seemingly been more interested in size and positional versatility with size. So for them to trade up and take a guard like this is a little bit surprising but also a positive as they aren't against taking a player they think is good regardless of a guy being smaller.

Good points, Monster. At some level we need to trust that TC and his front office team know what they’re doing with a lot more information than we have. It’s a move inasmuch as Dillingham doesn’t seem to fit the player mold TC likes. We’ll see. One factor to consider is that Dillingham is only 19.4 years old. I don’t have a sense of how much muscle weight his frame can hold, but 19 year old athletes typically add a lot of muscle weight by the time they’re 21. On the other hand, starting at 165 pound is a deep hole to dig out of.

Conley gets targeted late in the playoffs. Trae Young has been targeted since he played in the summer league, lol! I can't say that's the reason their teams didn't make the Finals, but their defensive vulnerability is a factor.

I just can't remember in recent history a team where the starting PG was (somewhat) short AND slight. Lowry with Toronto was short, but built like a tank and a dog defensively. Murray, Curry, Irving....none of those guys are or were great defenders, but they built their frames up and have enough physicality to at least compete at that end.

IDK...Billingham is still a young dude. Hopefully he can put on more muscle.
