I don't see PJ Dozier as much to get excited about. If our younger guys can't beat him out, that will speak poorly of TC's drafting ability.
I agree with others that are saying we will likely rely on a combo of Edwards and NAW for PG responsibilities. But I also understand the concern of not having another solid option behind Conley (since Dilly is a rookie/unknown). Couldn't they just re-sign JMac for a vet min deal and solve that problem?
PJ Dozier to the wolves

At the moment it does not seem like Jmac wants to be back and the wolves are cool with him not backCarlos Danger wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 11:29 am I don't see PJ Dozier as much to get excited about. If our younger guys can't beat him out, that will speak poorly of TC's drafting ability.

McLaughlin is 28 and hasn't done anything, he did shoot the 3 well last season after shooting it poorly the two previous seasons. Do we think McLaughlin is even in the league next season somewhere?kekgeek wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 11:38 amAt the moment it does not seem like Jmac wants to be back and the wolves are cool with him not backCarlos Danger wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 11:29 am I don't see PJ Dozier as much to get excited about. Yes he will be on a team in the 2024-2025 season.rapsuperstar31 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 11:45 amMcLaughlin is 28 and hasn't done anything, he did shoot the 3 well last season after shooting it poorly the two previous seasons. I certainly think he'll be a bench guy somewhere. As far as not doing anything - it depends on your measuring stick. As a VORP guy, I see he added value to us every season. His advanced stats actually looked pretty solid across the board.rapsuperstar31 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 11:45 amMcLaughlin is 28 and hasn't done anything, he did shoot the 3 well last season after shooting it poorly the two previous seasons. I'm assuming he's looking for a bigger role somewhere. But since the draft, he might find limited opportunities elsewhere. I'm still hopeful he will be back on a cheap deal. We'll see.
Re: PJ Dozier to the wolves
The PJ Dozier signing is official. Spotrac has it as fully guaranteed, but Jonny K still reports it partially guaranteed. It will come out eventually…
Re: PJ Dozier to the wolves
Doofus (autocorrect lol) reported the details. The contract is vet minimum with 1 mil guaranteed and the remainder guaranteed on Jan 20th.
It would seem PJ is another knob for Finch to use as TSJ and Dilly adjust to the NBA. A decision in January can be made as to how to proceed.

Re: PJ Dozier to the wolves
I see PJ Dozier sort of in the same way as Troy Brown Jr but with a different skill set. Troy Brown Jr isn't amazing but he is competent as a big wing defender and low volume 3 point shooter. PJ Dozier is a guy that at one point had the reputation of being a high level defender as a wing defender and maybe even against PGs. He is more of a ball handler and playmaker than Brown which is good since that's more of a need of the roster. He has some playoff experience as well. I think Brown is a more known commodity than Dozier but Dozier may fit the need of the team more and he also was willing to sign for a partially guaranteed deal.60WinTim wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:56 pm Doofus (autocorrect lol) reported the details. There are a couple options of ways to look at Dozier's deal only being guaranteed for 1 million.
1. The Wolves could still sign another player with an open roster spot even before the season starts and if they want to save money later and don't need Dozier they could cut him and save money. In this scenario they can also let Dozier go and sign a guy that becomes available in season. In this scenario in my mind it seems most likely they sign a 1st year guy that's cheaper to that last spot.
2. This allows the Wolves to bring on a vet player later in the season either keeping Dozier past the date his contract is guaranteed or cutting him and adding someone later.
Ultimately guaranteeing Dozier 1 million isn't cheap being so far over the cap. The Wolves still have a roster spot and so they aren't gonna cut him early in the season and pay him millions for nothing. It's not a thrilling signing but I think it could be a reasonably savvy one.

Re: PJ Dozier to the wolves
I just looked him up again on BB reference. I still can't get excited about PJ Dozier. No idea why they jumped on him. But I will reserve final judgment until after I see how he looks in preseason.
On the surface, it just seems like a Shake Milton signing. Cheap, veteran guy. If he's bad, his salary slot can be more easily packaged out for something else. But I just don't see him getting any minutes on our team, so hopefully he looks good in street clothes.
