I like the optimism! I think overall it's less like the Wolves get the pick this year but I agree Tim it's possible the Wolves end up with it. Detroit could even make some sort of minor move to help them with the loss of Ivy. They could take on a guy that could help them the rest of the season and get paid for it with draft assets since they have cap space.60WinTim wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 4:36 pm I'll take the opposite view: Detroit's pick will convey THIS year. Yeah, they lost Ivey, but they have a nice combination of youth and vets. Cade is really coming into his own as a star. And don't discount the coaching ability of Bickerstaff. Detroit has been on a roll, and I don't expect it to stop. They are almost .500 now, and I expect them to climb in the standings.
And yes, the Detroit pick is really good asset, that might make the difference in pulling off a deal to address the deficiency in our roster.
Detroit 1st round pick

Going into this season, based on how horrible Detroit was last season, I thought it was highly unlikely the Wolves would ever get a 1st round pick from Detroit. I still doubt we’ll get a first rounder this season, but the good news is that it looks like there’s a really good chance we end up with a first round pick in either 2026 or 2027 if not this year. It will likely be a mid-first rounder in the 10-15 range. I’m fine waiting.Monster wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 4:57 pmI like the optimism! I'm not surprised at Detroit not being terrible and thought that going into rhe season. That was based on them adding some worthwhile vets and JB being a better fit as a coach. Meanwhile in the east there was and is plenty of other teams that either aren't wildly talented or have injury issues or simply haven't been as good as expected the last couple years.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 10:47 pmGoing into this season, based on how horrible Detroit was last season, I thought it was highly unlikely the Wolves would ever get a 1st round pick from Detroit. I'm also fine waiting till next season to get the pick since the Wolves do already have the Jazz 2nd which is basically like a lower 1st with a very cheap contract. On the other hand getting the pick this year and being certain of getting it is something I like too. Plus having 2 valuable picks in the upcoming draft means they could add 2 talented players or possibly even move up the draft again. As it stands right now the Nets would have 4 first round picks and their own high 2nd so what are they gonna do with all those picks?

Re: Detroit 1st round pick
Who has a better chance of making the postseason this year... Detroit or Minnesota?
- Detroit has won 6 of 7 and is one game out of the 5th seed. Detroit lost its first 4 games this season.
- Minnesota is in disarray and is one game out of missing the play-in.

Abe that's a fair question. I don't get too wrapped up in the schedule but it's probaly worth at least considering this last stretch of games.AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:52 am Who has a better chance of making the postseason this year... Detroit or Minnesota?

And after tonight's action according to my new favorite website Tankathon, if the season was finished the Wolves would get Detroit's pick at 15 and...the Jazz would be picking with the Wolves selection at 14. lol
It's funny to be able to be kinda happy in some cases regardless whether an eastern conference team or western conference team beats each other in a match up. Lol
