Re: Wolves chances to win this series right now
The chances of winning the series are obviously pretty low right now. But one thing we can lean on is we are a pretty good road team. We have to play close to our best, but we can win in OKC. I'm no longer thinking this goes 7 games, but a win in game 5 could change things dramatically.

This is a horrible matchup for Ju, what he does best is how they defend best (interior defense). Would you pay Ju whatever Jaden is making, I think high 20's (25-30 per)? That might be a fair contract for both sides. Or do you trade him and go another way? In TC I trust on this. I feel like OKC isn't going anywhere, you might be better off going another way.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 2:23 pm We need to make a couple small adjustments and play game 5 with the same ferocity that we displayed in the 4th quarter. We might not win anyway, but it's all about bringing the series back to Minnesota. The odds aren't good but we don't need to worry about winning three in a row right now.
Here are the adjustments I would make:
Double Shai more often to get the ball out of his hands near the timeline. Getting 30 shots like last night is too many.
If you're going to play Ju (and I wish they wouldn't), get him down low on offense instead of above the arc. If you get him on the block, you take away one bad thing that can happen when he gets the ball.
Play Mike Conley and Jaden as many minutes as they can handle. We have to keep the turnovers down and the best way to do that is having Mike orchestrate the offense. Jaden needs to go 45-48 if he can. Don't give the Thunder a break when Shai goes to the bench. Move Jaden onto Williams at the beginning of the 2nd and 4th quarters, and back onto Shai when he comes back in. We have to shoot our shot in this game.
Pound the defensive glass with all 5 players. We don't run a fast break anyway, so do everything possible to limit opportunities.

I wouldn't extend him and hope he doesn't opt in. We have far better use for that money.Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 6:08 pmThis is a horrible matchup for Ju, what he does best is how they defend best (interior defense). I would go a completely different direction In their place, I would put Clark on SGA right from the start. I think he could wear down SGA , and it doesn't matter if he gets in foul trouble since he was warming the bench anyway. Having Naz starting might help to space the thunder D out allowing guys to penetrate more. This would also allow Jaden to guard Williams and hopefully save some of his fouls. One other possible benefit is making the Thunder having to make adjustments early on.Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 6:08 pmThis is a horrible matchup for Ju, what he does best is how they defend best (interior defense). I would bring Rudy and Conley in with the second unit so Conley can handle the ball when Caruso and Wallace are in the game, and it gives Rudy a more likely size advantage. Conley hasn't been handling the ball much when Ant and Randle are on the floor together. Clark can just as easily spot up outside, and he is also pretty good at running back cuts which should give Ant a relief valve. I think we need to use these two rookies more, and anything we can do to keep Dante from guarding SGA is a positive.

OKC is young so chances are in the next 3-4 years they'll be there. If Ju doesn't matchup well to help you beat OKC, then I think you're right. I would look for trade targets so we can use that money on another guy. Send him maybe back east and he could have more success.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 7:16 pmI wouldn't extend him and hope he doesn't opt in. Oh wait, we might be moving east ourselves but how quickly? But then potentially having to still beat OKC in a final.
