Fake account, D-Loser...kind of clever though.
lol. The Lakers have a payroll of $187M next season. Their only path to Naz Reed would be a sign-and-trade. I can see TC dealing Naz in a sign-and-trade, but not to the Lakers unless we were to get Luka in return. :)
I wouldn't mind Austin Reeves for Naz, if we're aquiring another 4/5 via trade making Naz more expendable. We torched him in the playoffs sure, but I think he's quite a bit better then he shown against us. We got dudes on D too.
I like it… Naz for reeves. I would do that, assuming we’re planning to keep Randle for at least next year.

I wouldn't think so, I've watched plenty of podcasts mentioning trades and Timberwolves options and never have they mentioned a restriction. Guys in the know too like Windy and Marks. IDK for sure though!
Correct. If he opts in, there are no restrictions.

If he opts out, then you might have trouble. If you sign-and-trade him to PHX, the Suns have to be under the first apron after the deal for it to be legal.

Also, if his new contract was, say $38 mil, it would trigger base-year compensation language. When a new salary is over 120% of the previous year, and the player is traded, he only counts for 50% of the amount for salary matching from the sender, but 100% for the team receiving the player, making it very difficult for two high payroll teams to make a trade with that player. BYC problems may not be an issue for Randle (unless some other team really wants to pay him a lot!), but will almost certainly be a problem with NAW.

Forget the Aprons, you are not even paying any luxury tax. This also means you have the FULL MLE at your disposal if you feel the need beef up the frontcourt, or add a PG because you want to move on from DDV (which would put you back in luxury tax territory, but not the aprons).
Sorry to be a buzzkill, but if you’re only $4 mil under the lux, you can only use $4 mil of the non-tax MLE to sign free agents - you can’t cross the lux with the MLE. Still, the smaller tax-payer MLE is an avenue teams could use instead.

I’ll match your buzzkill and raise you a bonus MLE!!

Even though it’s still called the taxpayer MLE, it only kicks in when a team goes over the first apron. Or at least that is all the info I have found.

Ha! I like that.

Let me say it a different way. If a team uses the full MLE, they will be hardcapped at the luxury threshold. That means they can’t even sign vet-mins or 10-day deals if it takes them over. What many contending teams will do is use part of it, but not more than the nt-MLE, in case they need to cross later.

This won’t matter to the Wolves. Despite ARod and Lore telling the NBA Board of Governors that they would drag MIN’s payroll under the luxury threshold, I don’t see how that makes any sense with the team reaching another WCF, after just one season in the lux. I imagine our final payroll will be over the lux, over the first apron, and right up under the second apron, at least for this year. If it’s down someplace where we’re using the full MLE, ownership failed.

LOL!

Well, my spreadsheet has us losing both NAW and NAZ to free agency, Randle picking up his option and/or extending at the 31 mil, and keeping our 2 new draftees. That’s 14 roster spots. If we release Garza, we have the full MLE to use and still stay just under the 1st apron.
