Re: Around the league offseason
I kept reading the details to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding something. I think it's way too much draft capital.
Re: Around the league offseason
I agree, Cool. I like Bane a lot and have often wished Rosas had drafted him instead of Bolmaro. Alas. But as you noted, that’s way too much draft capital. There’s no doubt in my mind that Memphis is launching into full rebuild mode. So I’m certain the players they acquired will not be long-term pieces for them. They might last in Memphis through next season, but by the beginning of the 2026-27 season none of them will be on the Grizzlies’ roster.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 1:37 pm I kept reading the details to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding something. Re: Around the league offseason
Bane has played more than 70 games in a regular season just once in his career. If someone was gonna offer that kind of package for him even if I wasn't looking to rebuild...thats a lot of stuff. What if they could use those assets and salalries to acquire a different player/s? Should Memphis look to rebuild? Yeah thats a possibility especially if they can trade their other 2 good players for returns like this!!! LolLipoli390 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 3:12 pmI agree, Cool. Memphis now has a ton of 1st round picks plus a number of talented young players with significant trade value around the League, including Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Scottie Pippen Jr. They also have some vets with trade value in Brandon Clarke and Luke Kennard. I think they’ll keep Santi Aldama as a young building block.Monster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 3:29 pmBane has played more than 70 games in a regular season just once in his career. As for Orlando, I can see why they wanted Bane. He’s a very high level two-way player who is still young. But I consider what they gave up too much for Bane. This is what happens when you want a player too much and fail to draw a firm line you won’t cross. Pat Riley really wanted Jimmy Butler, but not enough to give Thibs what he wanted. So Riley said no and waited a couple years until he could get him from another team for a price he considered reasonable. Patience, patience, patience.

I don't think they gave up too much for Bane at all.
Houstan didn't pan out.
Jett Howard as a lotto pick didn't pan out.
Signing KCP didn't pan out.
Anthony Black is awful offensively.
They decided to pay full price for what Bane brings. They believe in their core and wanna add to it and see the East is open. They're going for it. I don't mind it.
Memphis would do a better job with those picks than Memphis would. Unlike some of y'all, I would be open to the idea of Ja here. Say what you want about our guys, Ant included, but they're a close locker room with a good stable culture with new vibrant ownership. Ja has his flaws on the court, but from an off the court standpoint, this is a franchise that has become appealing for players who wouldn't mind a change of scenery to get themselves right.

I don't know man. I see Bane as a rich man's role player. He will help, but this is the type of move you make when you're close to a championship. Orlando is not.WildWolf2813 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 4:13 pm I don't think they gave up too much for Bane at all.

I suspect they wanted to move off Bane’s salary because of JJJ’s contract extension starting next season. Now if JJJ were somehow available, I would pursue it at most any cost! ANT, Jaden, JJJ and Rudy would be just amazing (in my book)!
Re: Around the league offseason
I'll add that Jaylen Wells looks like he had a nice rookie season and he was the 39th pick and turns 22 in August. It feels like Memphis hits on about 50% of their young players but when you give yourself a lot of opportunities that isn't terrible. Hopefully Zach Edey can get healthy.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 3:42 pmMemphis now has a ton of 1st round picks plus a number of talented young players with significant trade value around the League, including Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Scottie Pippen Jr. They also have some vets with trade value in Brandon Clarke and Luke Kennard. you literally described why everyone thought Connelly was a moron for acquiring Gobert.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 4:53 pmI don't know man. I see Bane as a rich man's role player. the 4 first and swaps here and there are the trade equivalent of a max. Now you'll see guys who you figured weren't good enough to warrant that, get trade as a trade return, same way we think some guys don't deserve max deals are getting them.

1. Right now KCP likely has significant negative trade value so Orlando was able to move on from him in the deal. Anthony is a nice enough player but they could have declined his 13 million in 2026-2027 season if they didn't think he was worth that so it's not like they gave up some amazing asset there although I think he is a worthwhile player for Memphis in the deal. Both of those guys were the salalries needed to add Bane so yeah. If you add up the value of the players they send out it's probably at worse neutral in trade value so to me what they gave up is the draft picks.
2. How far away is Orlando from being a contender? Idk a lot of that likely depends on health. Their arguably top 3 players all missed significant time last season and they finished at. 500. Wendell carter Jr, Banchero, Wagner, Bane and Suggs is a pretty nice starting lineup.
