Maybe I’m missing something, but I checked my math again and if the Hoopshype numbers on the Naz and Randle contracts are correct, we’re at around $193.6M with 11 roster players after letting Josh and Luke go. So it looks like we can sign a PG or backup center for something in the range of $5-10M without exceeding the second apron.Phenom wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 4:43 pmIt is missing JoJos salary but assumes Minott and Garza are in there as well, which would be a wash. I haven't seen any info on those options.60WinTim wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 4:31 pmThere must be something missing there. It is closer to the 4 mil mark. Maybe it does not include Joan's salary of 4+ mil? Or the 750K of DDV's unlikely bonus?Phenom wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 4:23 pm
Spotrac has them roughly 9 million below the second apron with the reported salaries of Naz and Julius, which is a little of 3 million above the first apron.
They'd probably be better off using the tax MLE to get a point guard type unless they have someone in mind to flip Fontecchio for, in this scenario, that makes a tad more than that exception. They could also use the TPE up to 8.8 mil but the deadline is approaching fast. I believe its from the Kyle Anderson S&T which is coming up on its one year anniversary.
Trading for someone like Fontecchio buys them time.

Breaking: Deandre Ayton is finalizing a contract buyout with the Portland Trail Blazers to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN.
Re: Around the league offseason
I don't even know why the Jazz did this trade at all. It didn't save an salary this year or next and cost them a future 2nd. They may have just bought out Sexton and let him be a FA. Maybe they just felt like they needed a center to keep up with all the other teams getting them!?!Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 8:06 pmHmm. Sexton must not have had much value around the League. Could we have gotten Sexton and a future 2nd for Randle? I would think so. I’d expect a future 1st as well. Then again, Randle would have to agree to go to Utah because it would. have been a sign-and-trade.
Randle makes over 10 million more than Sexton Utah probably would have had zero interest in that unless the Wolves were giving them draft assets. Matching salaries is such a big deal in trades.
Re: Around the league offseason
What a weird career he is having. I'm kinda glad for him to be able to get out now though him going to another team was what was going to happen anyways.
Re: Around the league offseason
It’s been reported that Utah’s management wants to be competitive next season. If so, they certainly would have had interest in Randle. If the Wolves were interested in swapping Randle for Sexton (and other salary match) I don’t think it was Utah standing in the way. Instead, it was likely Randle. Since we could only trade him as part of a sign-and-trade, Randle’s would have had to agree to go to Utah and there’s no way he’d agree to go to a losing/rebuilding team at this stage in his career.Monster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 10:27 pmI don't even know why the Jazz did this trade at all. This isn't a knock on your idea but I'll believe Utah wanting to be competitive when it happens. They have Markennen and Collins already so I don't know why they would want Randle.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 12:06 pmIt’s been reported that Utah’s management wants to be competitive next season. I'm trying to think of anything particularly worthwhile the Jazz have done after the Mitchell and Gobert trades. There have been a few headscratching deals and this is the latest. I get maybe clearing out Sexton for their young guards but being forced to give up even the future 2nd (while maybe relatively inconsequential) to do it seems...not like something a smart front office would do. Oh well. How long before they need to auction Markennen off to the highest bidder? The clock is ticking IMO.
Re: Around the league offseason
Free agent forward Nicolas Batum has agreed to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year, $12 million deal, league sources tell me.
Re: Around the league offseason
I can’t argue with your assessment of the Jazz front office. I’ll be surprised if Markennen or Collins is on the Jazz roster to start the 2026-27 season. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of those two moved before the start of next season.Monster wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 12:32 pmThis isn't a knock on your idea but I'll believe Utah wanting to be competitive when it happens.
