LOL. You are wrong again as usual and I enjoy pointing it out!FNG wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 11:02 amI expect Nori to get the job too. He has earned a head coach role, and the Knicks are pretty desperate. I’ll be happy for Micah because it will be a life changing payday for him, but I’m also unhappy for 2 reasons. One, we will miss him, both his talent and his humor. And two, I think he will be unsuccessful there…and not due to his failings. NY is coming off a very successful season after which they fired their coach, and few think they will win as many games as they did last year. If they don’t win 50, and I don’t think they will, he’ll be crucified there. I hope he signs a long term contract with an attractive buyout.

Re: Thibs Out in NY
It's Mike Brown! Seemed likely since they had him in for a second interview.
Great for us to be able to keep Nori.
I think it was in his exit interview or after we lost to OKC that Finch said that this past year was not fun at times. That's not a great sign. I think keeping Nori and, honestly, Joe Ingles, probably helps out with that from what I can tell. Both seem to be fairly easygoing guys, and it's always good to have people like that in your organization to keep the mood from getting bad. Hopefully whatever the deal was last year is something we can get past this upcoming year, and I would guess that Nori and Ingles should help with that.

Yeah, good that we kept Nori, but it's too bad he's missing out on a big payday. He may have dodged a bullet though not getting this job.SameOldNudityDrew wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 3:13 pm It's Mike Brown! Seemed likely since they had him in for a second interview.

Mike Brown seems to be a terrific guy, but he sure gets fired a lot! The best one was when he got fired from the Lakers after 5 games. If the Knicks start out 0-4, could be break that Laker record?
Re: Thibs Out in NY
To me it wasn't surprising what Finch said. It seemed like a bit of a tough year adding everyone in together and they had some injuries that kinda held them back at times. I'm sure guys like Conley and Donte struggling early on was not easy on them. It was interesting that he said it out loud. I think he also said that in response after a question was asked about how the season ended. He wanted to make a point about how nobody was satisfied with what they had done this year.FNG wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 3:59 pmYeah, good that we kept Nori, but it's too bad he's missing out on a big payday. Mike Brown is a good guy and good coach. He seems like a guy that MIGHT be someone that could be a championship coach IF he has just the right roster. Idk if the Knicks have that roster or not. Idk if he is actually a better coach than Thibs but he might be a more balanced guy. He used to be a defensive coach but has been around a lot of good offensive minds and might be open to various ways of playing. It will be interesting to see how he builds up his staff. In a way I think it's kind of a weird hire. I don't think I woukd be excited about it if I was a Knicks fan but Brown probably won't screw anything up bad either.
Re: Thibs Out in NY
Monster, the reason he got fired after five games is that the Lakers had worked to put together a roster they thought they could win a chip with...Kobe, Steve Nash, Pao Gasol, Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace. But he started the season 1-4. After he was fired, the Lakers went 44-33 the rest of the season. I think he's universally well liked around the league and has had some success, but my sense is he might be considered damaged good because of all the quick hooks he's gotten. I just don't think the Knicks had many good options that were willing to take that job...Brown may be a good coach, but I don't think there's any way they win 50 games again.Monster wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 7:59 pmTo me it wasn't surprising what Finch said. Yeah I didn't feel like looking too far back but now I will a little. Mike Brown was the first Kings coach since Rick Adelman in 2025-2006 to win 40 or more games. There were some accomplished head coaches that were there for short periods of time. Last year when they were strugglely he got fired and they were 3 games over. 500 the rest of the way. The Knicks have a pretty good roster so if they stay healthy they are gonna be pretty good.FNG wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 9:09 pmMonster, the reason he got fired after five games is that the Lakers had worked to put together a roster they thought they could win a chip with...Kobe, Steve Nash, Pao Gasol, Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace. Idk if they will be better with Brown or not but there may be some significant benefit of all those guys being together going I to the season. People forget they added Bridges Towns and OG had only been on the roster for a few months. They got off to a hot start and looked like everything was good. Looking back at their roster I think they had 4 guys that had been there for 2 or more years. They had a number of bench guys that were new to the team last season too. NBA teams have a lot of turnover but that's is quite a bit. So if they are better this year it might be simply a good roster coming together not because of some masterful working Sod Mike Brown. That may have been the case to some extent with the Kings although somewhat hilariously they has the best offensive rating his first year.
Re: Thibs Out in NY
Some good points, monster. Another reason the Knicks could have some success is some of their toughest competitors' injuries make them not so formidable...Celtics, Pacers, and Bucks for starters. Some of the games that might have looked like losses now look more like wins. Still, if I had to bet, the Knicks will win fewer games next season than last. And I;m afraid nice-guy Mike will get a lot of the blame.Monster wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 10:15 pmYeah I didn't feel like looking too far back but now I will a little. Barring key injuries... the Knicks will win more than 50 games. As noted, the East is BAD. Someone has to win games against other Eastern Conference opponents. The Knicks get to play 56 games vs. the East... where there's only one team clearly better than them (CLE).FNG wrote: ↑Thu Jul 03, 2025 7:33 amSome good points, monster. Plus, they picked up Yabasele and Clarkson. Not that either is a great get but I'd take Yabasele over Achuiwawa and Clarkson over Cam Payne (even though I'm not a fan of Clarkson and he'll have to accept fewer minutes).
As for scapegoats... we all know coaches usually take the heat first. But this is NYC and Karl Anthony Towns. Heck, he was getting heat as last year went on and that was after one of the best seasons of his career and an All NBA nod. Anything less... and it's going to get interesting for the Knicks' highest paid player.
[Note: One other note... the Wolves often got a pass last year because of the huge trade right before the season. The Knicks have another year of continuity, too.]
