I’m excited
I was about to post the same thing! But he didn't say Beringer, he said "Joan" twice if I heard it right.

I'm excited, too!

I'm surprised by that comment since in the coach's presser he said Joan hadn't been cleared yet to play so he had no comment on how he looked in practice. May be he was stealthily participating in practice and the Wolves just can't formally acknowledge his presence until the final paperwork is done on the transaction (?). IDK, may be I misheard something....

Dilly was likely talking about Joan's Bocce Ball game. I'd guess Joan is doing some sort of working out even if he isn't practicing with the team yet.

Couldn’t agree more with Vecenie here — Beringer is exactly the kind of raw, high-upside big that makes sense in a system with Gobert around. You’re not drafting him for day one impact, but his physical profile is off the charts. If the Wolves are patient and let him develop without rushing, he could turn into a legit force in 2–3 years. Love the pick from a long-term perspective.

Thought I’d return to the Beringer thread after we all had the chance to see Joan in action in his first SL game. Obviously, Beringer was tremendous in that game and while we should probably temper our enthusiasm a bit until we see more there is definitely cause for excitement about this new addition to the team. It’s not just his impressive stats in that game; it’s also the way he played - the quick reaction, control, poise, effort and instincts he showed. Yes, it was only one game, but it’s not just that one game to fuel our excitement; it’s also the highly positive pre-draft evaluations of Joan by highly respected experts including our own TC and his staff. And yes, Joan is young but as Monster pointed out so was KG when he started here right out of high school.

Speaking of KG, there’s a striking similarity between the pre-draft process that led to the franchise decisions to draft each one. Interestingly, in both cases it was a private pre-draft workout in Chicago that completely hooked the Wolves on drafting both Joan and KG. Check out the following comments:

Here are some comments on Beringer after his Chicago workout for TC and our staff:

“A lot of the NBA stuff is so hyper-sanitized,” said Joe Connelly, the team’s director of scouting. ”This had an authentic, almost grimy feel to it that just felt natural.” As Beringer went through a series of drills aimed at giving the Wolves an idea of his potential, from ballhandling to one-on-one games and even to some midrange jumpers, the Wolves steadily grew more enamored with a player they had been intrigued by from afar for the better part of a year. “I remember just catching an eye with Tim and both of our eyebrows were kind of cocked, like what’s going on here, man,” Connelly said. 22 hours ago – via New York Times

Here are some comments by Flip and Kevin McHale after watching KG workout in Chicago:

“We turned to each other and said we better hope he’s there at No. 5,” said Saunders, who had just been hired as the general manager of the Minnesota Timberwolves and was working under McHale at the time. “You could just see how he played, the passion during his workout. It was the best workout I’ve ever had anybody go through in my 20 years.”

"The first time I really saw him. I went to Chicago. They had a workout, and immediately, I was like, 'Oh, man!' Nobody is saying we like him. Everybody's shut up," McHale said of Garnett in the TV documentary "Ready Or Not: The '96 Draft."
"And I'm thinking, I can't believe I'm drafting a high school guy, I've lost my mind, but I'm thinking this guy is gonna be really good. I just don't know when.

You might recall Rob Dillingham raving about Joan about a week ago after practicing with him. Here’s a comment from Rob from yesterday: Dillingham: “You don’t even gotta explain it, y’all see it. It’s been like that since the first day. So I’m super proud of him, and he gon’ be something special for sure.” I’m not sure if you all noticed how TSJ and Rob rushed over to Beringer when he fell and hurt his risk. They looked like two protective older brothers who know their youngest brother is special.

NBA players like Rob and TSJ who’ve been playing basketball they could barely walk know special talent when they see it on the court with them in practice. I remember Sam Mitchell making some comment that he know KG was going to be special after their first practice together in the fall before the start of KG’s rookie season.

Maybe I’m making too much of this and I know there will be growing pains but I’m convinced Beringer is going to be a special player. As McHale said about KG, “This guy’s going to be really good, I just don’t know when.”

Not possible. This team mortgaged their future when they traded for Rudy.

Another “tell”, Lip, is the fact that the coaching staff had seen enough in the first few practices to put him in the starting lineup. A few of us assumed Jesse would start.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised when I saw Beringer start but then it became apparent literally within the first 30 seconds as to why.

Nope. It will be interesting if Denver avoids going at him, not that there is a bunch of advanced scouting going on, but I wouldn't be surprised to see his blocks way down if anyone on Denver's staff watched some film of that game against the Pelicans.
