I'm definitely interested in Joan, but if Rudy's still on the roster next year, I don't see Joan getting more than 18-20 minutes per game, and that's IF we trade Randle or Naz, so that all the backup C minutes can go to Beringer.
I don't think it's possible to play Rudy and Joan at the same time because neither can shoot outside the restricted area.
FWIW, I think 18-20 mintues per game for a guy that young sounds reasonable. So even if they keep Rudy, as long as they move either Randle or Naz and don't pick up another 5, I think we should still be able to see the Beringer minutes we've been wanting. Theoretically.
Joan Beringer
Re: Joan Beringer
Here is a question I've been pondering for quite some time: Is Joan capable of developing a jump shot?
Has anyone attending the games watched Joan in warmups? Does he take jump shots? Does he hit them?
A reasonable jump shot would give him legit opportunities at PF. Heck, even without a jump shot, playing alongside a C who does have a jump shot would create some interesting pairings. Perhaps with Rocco?
Okay, carry on. I just had to put that fantasy out there!

Oh, and here are highlights of Joan this past season. As the team gets better an throwing lobs, Rocco might get in on the action as well!

Re: Joan Beringer
He shot 68% on free throws in the G-League and 70% in the NBA, so let's just call him a 70% free throw shooter, which isn't bad for a Center. It isn't that great either. Given his age and work ethic, I'd say it's possible. I have my doubts that he could ever get to the point of being a reliable 3-pt shooter. Being able to hit mid-range jumpers at a 40% clip isn't worth the work he'd have to put into it to get to that point IMO if that's his ceiling in terms of a jump shot.60WinTim wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2026 11:11 am Here is a question I've been pondering for quite some time: Is Joan capable of developing a jump shot?

I've mentioned this before, but I did see him hit a few of those Hartenstein-esque push shots in the G-League. Granted, iHart has taken that shot to the next level against Wemby with incredible arc and touch. I think that's a shot Joan can develop and refine. It means he doesn't always have to get to the rim on his rolls to be a threat to score.

Re: Joan Beringer
I think he shot something like 55% at the FT line before this last year. So getting up to 70% shows a big improvement, but historically, anybody shooting just 55% at any point in their career typically never really develops a jumper. Plus, I think the 70% was based on a relatively small sample size.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2026 2:31 pmHe shot 68% on free throws in the G-League and 70% in the NBA, so let's just call him a 70% free throw shooter, which isn't bad for a Center. His FT form looks really stiff to me, like two distinct and unrelated motions with a pause between them, which is a bad sign.
If he can keep his FT% at 70%, that's at least not going to kill us at the line, which is good. He should focus a lot of his practice as a shooter just working on his FTs honestly. Until he can average 75% or more from the FT line for a season, I honestly wouldn't complicate things for him by asking him to practice any kind of a shot outside 10 feet.
However, I think Q's right that a Hartenstein push shot might be a reasonable kind of shot for him to practice from that 6-12 foot range. If he can hit that shot with some consistency, it will definitely make him more playable.
If he ever does get to 74-75% on his FTs over a solid sample size. Then I'd practice very simple pick and pop jump shots with him from 15 feet, and basically tell him to just repeat his FT motion. Relatively wide base with almost no lift off his feet (think KAT, Lopez, or Valanciunas, just from 15 feet instead of 25).
He can clearly score better around the basket than Rudy, has better hands, and can dribble a little too. But I honestly would not count on him developing the ability to hit shots beyond the restricted area or that 12 foot range. If he does, great! But I don't see reason to think it's likely.
