Edwards' approach was different. Weird. Maybe even confusing.

Because I get the old "It aint over until the end so you should NEVER concede" angle.

At the same time, I was fine after hearing Ant's explanation. He was going to have to do it anyway... so why not get it done with before the Spurs start celebrating. It goes against the drama of the old sports video moment where the losing team looks on all super sad, vowing it won't happen again, while watching the other team celebrate... but that level of masochism is usually reserved for championship rounds.

Edwards is different (both good and bad). I'm cool with that since it seems to hit on authenticity more often than not.

Can someone explain to me how the whole salary matching thing works with trades?
The Wolves are under the 1sr apron so they don't have those restrictions right? So can they get off contracts.like Ju's without having to take a bunch back?

You can always dump salary without taking ANY back if the team taking on the salary is out of the luxury tax and has actual money to spend during free agency. So THAT team needs to be below the luxury tax line. Which is below the 1st apron. Which is twice removed from the 2nd apron.

Otherwise it is 120% salary matching unless you are an apron team then it is 110%.

If you want no contracts back at all, Brooklyn, Chicago, Lakers, and Detroit can before they do anything else. Utah, Dallas, and Memphis can absorb most of it but would have to send out a little bit of salary to us. Most teams could send back at least a little less salary to us in a trade of Randle at the start of free agency before they make any other moves.

Thunder lost so they might need to use some of their draft treasure trove to upgrade. SGA is a clear foundational piece, but less sure about Chet and often injured Jalen Williams. Maybe, Thunder replace one of them with Giannis. Maybe they make a big offer for Trey Murphy. Thunder can't be complacent now and so it will be interesting to see what they do.

Given the fact they had two key guys injured (JDubs and Mitchell) I think OKC runs it back next year even though they could go get Giannis if they wanted him (but we don't know if Giannis would want OKC!). They may tinker around the edges, but I just don't see Presti busting up the core yet.

I don't think they panic too much given the injuries. I have heard they may try to trade up for a top 3 pick to get Boozer though.

After some time to heal from the whooping we got from Wemby and seeing them do it to OkC…and now seeing NYK punch them in the mouth….the answer seems to be a Center that isn’t a brick laying offensive dweeb that can step out and be a threat on the perimeter.

Rocco shot 48% from 3 in Iowa….(14 games…27 or so attempts….)

Only slightly delusional joking but maybe we shouldn’t panic and do some big drastic thing…

Maybe figuring out how to turn Randle into something that lets us be fluid with the roster around the trade deadline and next years off season while allowing our current core to get time in their more ideal roles and see who flourishes?

Ayo as a starter?
Joan/Rocco with 10 min each a game?
Naz as a starter?
Ant back off ball more?
TJ with all the opportunity he can handle?
Whoever we draft, how they might fit?

All or some or none of those things might bear fruit but if we don’t let it simmer for the first 40 or 50 games then we are doing this build a disservice imo. Selling it all for Giannis or Kawhai or Kyrie seems like a huge gamble that drastically shortens the window. Zion or Morant are such long shots of a gamble in character that it seems counter to our current culture.

There’s no magic facilitator PG out there that we can just get that fits the age range of our core. If there was someone woulda mentioned them in some thread here. Say it all you want “we need a Kyrie/conely type”… they don’t just fall outta trees. You have to draft them if you have the chance or you have to play a different style. We seem to have the parts to play that different style and when it works it’s so fun to watch.

Long winded way of saying that minus Julius I think we run this back and simmer it to see how the league shakes out. I put money on big moves to win the Giannis or kawhai sweepstakes end up being the next Paul George to the clippers deal that sinks whoever gets them and propels the bucks or clippers into contendership in a few seasons.

I don’t even care who we can get for Randle or that Wemby made other legit good guys look just as bad as Randle, his “moody” vibe has to be excised and see what it looks like without him before I’d make a big swing. Get expiring contracts and picks as much as we can and find a 6m mle big insurance bench player that won’t threaten Joan/rocco. Scrape the best game managing PG off the heap. Let Connelly work some more trade deadline magic and let’s see where we are. Maybe the vocal minority of you will be proven right about Finch and we can have the evidence that he should go?

You're not wrong.

TC basically has 2 options

1. find those cheap rotational players that supplement a team and make everyone better

and/or

2. Make another Jokic.
