Hmm so Wolves get #33 and a ~33.3m trade exception for Randle and #28.
My initial reaction is wow I didn't think he'd basically be a net negative in value, buuuut lately I have been hearing people debating if an early 2nd round pick was more valuable than #28 since it's cheaper.
I think that's a valid argument, especially for the Wolves getting a little bit of extra space. I'm also hoping this is a precursor to them snagging someone in a bigger multi team deal.
Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
Re: Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
What this trade did.
Allows us to resign Ayo
The wolves now have the full MLE (15 million) to use that they didn’t have before
And have a 33 million dollar trade exception to acquire a player (I’m think Myles Turner makes a lot of sense)

Has to be another move or moves. I wonder if this get finalized on this years books or the upcoming season. The Durant trade last year announced before the draft, started as a three or four team trade and finished as a seven team trade after the draft adding different transactions. We have a huge 30 million+ trade exception to use, and I believe full access to the mle if we don't do another move.
Re: Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
I believe the answer is no. Especially since we will not technically fall under the cap.
Shams says we create a 33.3 mil trade exception. So the trade must be consummated after July 1st. So, rather than trading Randle directly for another player, TC an choose when an who he wants to bring in.
It really is a savvy move (even if it only makes up for the original "unsavvy" move of extending Randle in the first place!).

that exemption will go unused.
But I think this means the Jack Kayil rumors were true. He'll be there at 33.

Re: Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
Connelly basically found a taker to trade Randle for nothing. As I looked through the options coming back this was my preferred option but I didn't think it was gonna happen.
Why do I like it?
Let's say there is another Aaron Wiggins you want to trade for. They can take a guy like that in with any of their 3 trade exemptions. For the money they were paying Randle they could end up being able to sign or take on 3 quality players instead of one and they can pick who those players are they are in the driver's seat.
They could also take back bad salary in a trade to acquire a player or a pick.
This confirms Connelly does know what he is doing.

All this cap space we could theoretically take on a teams bad contract for a draft asset to gain more ammo for a bigger move. Or just a way to draft a guy we want further up in the draft.

it's not cap space. We're still well over the cap. We're just miles away from apron hell even if we brought Ayo back at $20 mil a year.Mnwild1128 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2026 9:40 pm All this cap space we could theoretically take on a teams bad contract for a draft asset to gain more ammo for a bigger move. I just saw this will be a July 6th transaction, so nevermind.60WinTim wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2026 9:37 pmI believe the answer is no. Especially since we will not technically fall under the cap.

It's interesting they didn't bring back Claxton in the deal. I personally would rather be able to spend or not spend that money however I wanted.
