The beauty is the Wolves aren't required to use the entire exception. I'll actually be surprised if none of it is used.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2026 12:05 amThat’s interesting and a relief. It’s great to have a quality NBA beat reporter like Jon K! It makes sense to me that the Randle deal was all about financial flexibility. The Wolves lost two things in the Rudy deal: (1) draft capital, and (2) financial flexibility, costing them both KAT and then NAW. The Randle deal recaptures one of those two. I think it was a very shrewd move by TC if used for that purpose.
If the Wolves front office wants to add an impact player to the roster and if Jon K is correct, then they’ll trade Rudy rather than use the trade exception. But I could certainly see the Wolves dealing Rudy mainly to recapture some of the draft capital they gave up to acquire him. Maybe they can do both.

Donte is great, I’m just assuming that he’ll be moved this offseasonMonster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2026 12:22 amI'll bet you if he isn't traded Donte will play at least 1 game for the Wolves this coming season. Players are returning much quicker from that injury. He also still provided value the 2 seasons he was here. He was a very valuable part of that trade. If he was healthy right now he would have quite a bit of value and even with his injury a team still might be interested in acquiring him since he might return in time to ramp up for a playoff run. Will he be effective when he comes back? I do have my doubts but I do think he will play and it's also possible they resign him which they likely wouldn't be able to sign him as a free agent so that has some value as well.D-Loser25 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2026 11:31 pmWell Donte will never play another game for the wolves, so at this point, it’s essentially Joan plus some flexibility, like I said. Not really complaining, but it just looks kinda bad. Thought we could have done better than Randle for Kat. I think they tried selling DDV as the real centerpiece of that trade, but nobody buying that. TC should have done better or kept Kat, but I think we lucked out with Joan, so I’m good.

Last season he was pretty darn good.

Mo Gueye. Sweet.
Re: Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
For what? Why would they move him now since the have plenty of financial flexibility? And if they did move him they probably get something back.D-Loser25 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2026 12:30 amDonte is great, I’m just assuming that he’ll be moved this offseasonMonster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2026 12:22 amI'll bet you if he isn't traded Donte will play at least 1 game for the Wolves this coming season. Re: Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
This deal is pretty half ass if they dont go all the way and trade Rudy now. I will have a lot of respect for TC if he does it. Trading Randle to sign Ayo and and MLE player doesnt scream a successful offseason to me. Hes got to go all the way.
Re: Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
I think you’re right Doper. I can’t believe TC would stop here. I suspect he wanted the cap relief to help add quality depth and avoid any 1st apron trade restrictions. I don’t think he views the MLE as the answer he’s seeking to upgrade the roster. I could see him trading Naz but more likely I see him trading Rudy and I think that’s the right thing to do at this point.
Re: Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
One more thought on how to measure the success or value of this trade. I’ll state it as a question: Can the Wolves use the MLE with a starting salary of $15 million to sign a player who will be a better fit and net positive for the team compared to Randle and also draft a player at 33 who is as good as a player they could draft at 28? I think the answer to both questions is a definite yes. And we’ll also have a BAE to add more quality depth. And we still have Rudy to trade for an impact player.

if they use any part of their TE or use the MLE or BAE, they're hard capped at the first apron.
Re: Randle traded to Brooklyn in 3 team deal
Umm… to match salaries… I think the odds are still better than not that he’s gone this offseason. Especially with the ridiculous Ayo extension.Monster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2026 12:37 amFor what?
