Did he just play overseas cause he was getting more money to play over there?

It looks like he got a 3 million contract last year. That may have been before or after taxes. They often pay for basically all your living expenses too. Real Madrid is one of the best teams in Europe so getting a nice contract and going there is noteworthy in a way. I'm guessing he wasn't exactly getting any offers over the vet min last off-season with maybe no guarantee of playing time and when Real Madrid called his agent probably said why not try it out? I could think of worse places to spend a few months than Spain. Honestly it sounds pretty cool to me. I enjoyed my time in Spain and one of my favorite parts was going to a game in Barcelona.Jester1534 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2026 4:47 pmDid he just play overseas cause he was getting more money to play over there?

Really solid signing. Lyles is a fine backup and can even start if necessary, although something is probably not workout very well if he is starting a bunch of games for us.
Assuming no trades, the Wolves have one more vet min roster spot they can/need to fill this offseason, and one more that can be filled mid-season as needed. The spot that is available now is clearly being held open for LeBron. If LeBron goes elsewhere, I suspect Rocco will get it, although TC might turn to another FA that can to add depth at PF.

If you liked the idea of Guerschon Yabusele for cheap then Lyles is probably bringing a lot of the same things to the floor when he plays. GB has shot the 3 better but Lyles is a little better rebounder, turns the ball over less and also fouls less. I don't think you want either guy playing more than 25 or so minutes for a couple games but for the vet min Lyles seems solid.
At this point the question of worst player with an NBA contract on the roster is either Lyles or the 20 year old Evans. That doesn't seem too shabby.

Gemini says:
Trey Lyles played overseas last year to secure a more prominent role and a lucrative contract after sitting deep in NBA free agency. Rather than accept a veteran's minimum deal in the NBA, he signed with the Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid, where he led the team in scoring and reached the EuroLeague Final.
After his highly successful year in Spain, Lyles officially signed a one-year contract to return to the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

I agree, Monster. I like this signing. And I like our roster. Also, while I’m growing tired and increasingly irritated at the whole LeBron decision drama, I still want him here.Monster wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2026 5:23 pm If you liked the idea of Guerschon Yabusele for cheap then Lyles is probably bringing a lot of the same things to the floor when he plays. Monster you feline fuck! I actually agree with your take on the worst players on the roster.Monster wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2026 5:23 pm If you liked the idea of Guerschon Yabusele for cheap then Lyles is probably bringing a lot of the same things to the floor when he plays.
