Lip, it does seem quite clear to me from Finchy's and TC's comments that they are not at all comfortable with Slim as the everyday PF...it's not a knock at all on Jaden, it's just that they love him at SF. TC knows he has to find a starting-level PF somehow, and it has to be agonizing for him to have his hands completely tied as he waits for LeBron. But don't think he's just sitting on his tied hands...knowing TC as we do, he probably has 4 or 5 Plan B's in the works in the (more likely than not) event that James elects to go elsewhere.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2026 8:56 am Finch said he doesn’t envision Jaden starting at PF. Hmm. Does that mean he envisions Green, Edwards or TSJ starting there? I really doubt it. Finch’s comment is telling because it indicates the Wolves organization does not share the view of Q and others on this board that we’re fine moving forward with the current roster. Obviously, if LeBron signs here he will be our starting PF. But if LeBron goes elsewhere then I think it’s inevitable the Wolves will trade for a starting PF and I don’t think they’ll wait until after the season starts.
I’m troubled by the need to trade for a PF because it will obviously involve trading Josh Green AND one of our other wings, most likely TSJ. This team needs three-point shooting. Ant, Ball, Jaden, Ayo and Green are the only guys we can count on to hit threes. TSJ has the most 3-point potential among the others. After watching the terrible shooting from Isaiah Evans so far in Summer League we clearly can’t count on him. If we trade Green and TSJ then we’re counting on Clark and Evans for three point shooting and I don’t like that bet.
And the other thing we can be almost 100% certain of: the Plan B move he eventually makes will be something nobody has mentioned here in all the pages of conjecture! Just look at the moves he has made that, as smart as we are as a group, nobody here anticipated: trading for Rudy, trading for Conley/NAW, trading KAT for Randle/Donte, trading Naz+ for LaMelo Ball, signing Trey Lyles instead of the 20-25 candidates that we bandied about here...whew!
So it seems almost pointless to offer any conjecture about how he is going to bring in a PF to start not named LeBron, but I'll offer a wild guess. As much as we would love for him to land a PF without giving up a top 6 or 7 player (like trading Green and TSJ), my sense is he is going to go bolder like he always does, and do something that we haven't discussed here. So here is my prediction: LeBron is not going to sign with us, and despite his best efforts, no other team bites on what TC is willing and able to offer to secure a starting PF. So we start the season with a mix and match strategy at PF...a little Shannon, a little Lyles, a little Clark, a little Jaden, a little (gasp) Ant...puts a lot of pressure on Finchy to find the right matchup every night, especially since his nature is to roll out his 5 best players every night If it works, terrific...don't make any moves. But if it doesn't, I think he is forced to look at his most attractive asset at a current position of strength for us, and move Ayo in mid December for a very good starting PF. I hope not, because he's one of my favorite guys on the roster both from a basketball and personality standpoint.
But heck, he traded Naz didn't he? This would not be nearly as controversial as that.
