I'll say this... IF Lebron does pick the Wolves adding a player like Josh Green suddenly looks like an even better move. So many wing options and there is the possibility of moving one for something else if needed.

Josh Green and Trey Lyles have both been 7th/8th men on playoff-bound teams in the Western Conference, including Green's tenure with Dallas where he played in the Finals after beating us in the Conference Finals. That doesn't make them huge factors off the bench (or as spot starters), but it does make them a viable part of our rotation. I'm hoping to not have to utter the words "he's unplayable!" too often when it comes to those two....decent floor/low ceiling types I guess?

I don’t think we’ll have many if any “he’s unplayable” moments with either one, provided their respective roles are limited. They’re both very solid, decent rotation bench players. Josh Green in particular has been a net positive in all but two of his seasons, one of them two seasons ago when Charlotte had him playing heavy minutes as a starter.

Last season was Green’s best plus/minus and on/off season: plus-minus +207 | On-Off +4.8 (Missed the start of the year due to shoulder surgery, but was highly efficient off the bench upon returning).

He scored 14 points in the series-deciding blowout loss... after averaging less than 4 ppg over the previous 13 playoff games. Despite the Mavs being incredibly thin, they still cut Green's minutes once the playoffs came around, from 26 mpg to 18 mpg.

I know you're not claiming anything close to Green being a savior, but he's probably more worthy of a vet minimum deal than he is a $14M deal in 2026. He's just a guy who knows his role... which is to stay out of the way of his better, higher usage teammates. Again, value... but incredibly limited and available for cheaper.

But Kyrie played really well with Luka and the Mavs bigs shot 40-48 fg from the field. Sprinkle in a couple of big plays or calls in big moments and you get the result we saw.]

It will be interesting to see how Green turns out if he's still on the roster at season start. I don't have any memory of him in that Dallas series haha, so I know I'm kinda of just filling in the blanks and wish casting with him based on some of his analytics and measurables.

Regarding you small tangent, I'll just say that it's hard for me to feel too wistful about that squad. Obviously it would have been nice to see them get to the finals, but I have zero delusions that they would have beat the Celtics.

Yeah, I agree he's not a great value at that price (Green that is). He's a classic low-mistake role player that will make his open 3s, try hard on defense without a lot of fouls, and rarely turns the ball over. But you better damn well have a couple protagonists out there with him, because he ain't gonna do anything else to tilt the flow of the game in our favor.

I'm of the mind that you tell him and Clark that they are competing with each other for minutes - may the best man win.
