A big point of mine was offering Kuminga that vet slot, seeing if he takes it, if not then pivot to maneuvering when teams are forced to trade/cut/waive guys.
I feel having Green's salary when it can be aggregated was a better bird to have in the hand moving forward if you really want to make a push on a big player for the last "void". Now it is Williams, Kuminga, and 2 mil in space gone that equal that initial space. And Green was an easier sell by himself in my opinion.
After having an opportunity to research the Kuminga saga, both financially and on the court, I really believe he represented the best option at PF for the Wolves in the upcoming season. Better than PJ Washington. Better than Obi Toppin. Better than most anyone else that might be available. It is a a chaotic string of events that opened the door for Kuminga winding up with the Wolves. And the Wolves are VERY fortunate they could pull it off.
What happens after this coming season is a valid question. But being able to address the PF position for the upcoming season is great. Before the Green trade, the Wolves had two open roster spots and only enough apron space to sign one player to a vet min contract. Following the Green trade, they replaced Green with Williams AND gained enough apron space to not only sign Kuminga to the tax payer MLE, but also have more than enough space to sign another vet minimum player to that last open roster spot.
It's a big win in my book, and another feather in TC's cap to go along with the Ball acquisition.

But I disagree that it is the better move going forward until proven otherwise.
I fully believe this handicaps the franchise this season. I would like to be proven otherwise. Next year is made more difficult when too many people can now too easily jump ship if it fails, and you've added another metric that doesn't seem to care about the immediate and rather the future payday in Kuminga.
