I feel having Green's salary when it can be aggregated was a better bird to have in the hand moving forward if you really want to make a push on a big player for the last "void". Now it is Williams, Kuminga, and 2 mil in space gone that equal that initial space. And Green was an easier sell by himself in my opinion.
After having an opportunity to research the Kuminga saga, both financially and on the court, I really believe he represented the best option at PF for the Wolves in the upcoming season. Better than PJ Washington. Better than Obi Toppin. Better than most anyone else that might be available. It is a a chaotic string of events that opened the door for Kuminga winding up with the Wolves. And the Wolves are VERY fortunate they could pull it off.

What happens after this coming season is a valid question. But being able to address the PF position for the upcoming season is great. Before the Green trade, the Wolves had two open roster spots and only enough apron space to sign one player to a vet min contract. Following the Green trade, they replaced Green with Williams AND gained enough apron space to not only sign Kuminga to the tax payer MLE, but also have more than enough space to sign another vet minimum player to that last open roster spot.

It's a big win in my book, and another feather in TC's cap to go along with the Ball acquisition.

I am rooting for them.

But I disagree that it is the better move going forward until proven otherwise.

I fully believe this handicaps the franchise this season. I would like to be proven otherwise. Next year is made more difficult when too many people can now too easily jump ship if it fails, and you've added another metric that doesn't seem to care about the immediate and rather the future payday in Kuminga.

Who are we missing out in a trade in your scenario?

to add:

to believe Green can be valuable when aggregated is concluding that Donte has no chance of resigning and therefore won't be back.

here's the problem:

the only way Green is remotely tradeable is if he plays well while we suck.

The consternation from those who are upset we traded green hopefully correlates to those who want to play it safe and just get to the playoffs. Green is a known quantity that doesn’t do anything special enough to stick on a roster. He is fine as an 8th guy some nights or a starter sometimes if the matchup is a smaller team maybe. He isn’t moving a needle and is an expiring deal.

Cody Williams is potential my special but too young and without enough opportunity to prove anything and is also expiring.

So we wouldn’t have either guy if we don’t want after a year. Why not try to see if there’s a ceiling in Cody that doesn’t exist in Josh? Who really cares? We have had end of bench lotto tickets before. They rarely pay off and are not gonna bury you if they don’t improve.

But if something clicks with Cody then he is basically our draft pick next year. It’s such a better roster construction strategy then just waiving and stretching Josh just to be able to snag a vet min rando dusty Unc

As someone who is fairly skeptical about the Kuminga trade and is also a bit disappointed to lose out on Green's utility; I'll put it like this.

Kuminga, on this contract, has the potential to play at a 10 million dollar value or higher.

While Green, at his absolute best, would have netted out to give them neutral value.

I'd say the odds of either happening is about the same, so the upside lies with JK
