None of these deals are realistic
Thanks for coming up with these D-Loser. It's fun to consider them. Without considering whether any of these trades is realistic, here are my thoughts on each one from the Wolves perspective:
1. DLO, 19, protected 1st for Murray. I wouldn't do this deal. I've always liked Murray and wanted us to draft him. But he hasn't played in almost two years and is coming off ACL surgery. Yes, ACL surgery seems fairly routine these days and NBA player often come back strong after getting it. But it does add a level of uncertainty that troubles me. DLO and two first round picks seems like to much from the Wolves perspective. Of course, Denver wouldn't do this deal, so my take is sort of beside the point.
2. DLO for John Collins. I'd do this deal from the Wolves perspective. We'd be upgrading substantially at a position of need and I think Tyus would be a positive as our starting PG. However, we're assuming that Tyus is gettable with the MLE. Perhaps he is on a 4-year escalating deal. But I'm not sure. Again, Atlanta wouldn't do this deal. They don't need a $30 million PG and wouldn't give up Collins for DLO under any circumstances in my view.
3. DLO & future 1st for Herro. I wouldn't do this deal. I like Herro, but DLO is a better overall player than Herro. Giving them a future 1st just adds insult to injury in my view. I think Miami would do this deal. But the Wolves shouldn't.
4. DLO for Westbrook, Sekou Dane future unprotected 1st. The Lakers would probably do this deal, but the Wolves shouldn't. I'm probably one of the few on this board who really like Westbrook's game. But I'm not sure he fits well with our current team. Sekou looks like a bust to me, so I just don't see him having any value. I like the idea of the Lakers 2027 unprotected 1st. I'd consider this, but I wouldn't pull the trigger on it.
5. DLO, Naz, 19, 2nd-round pick for Carter & Suggs. Interesting idea. I'd do this deal from the Wolves perspective. Most on this board would say the Magic wouldn't consider this. I actually think Orlando might pull the trigger on this one. Yes, Carter is good an put up good numbers. But the Magic had the second-worst record in the NBA with their current roster, including Carter. They're on the front end rebuilding and Carter actually doesn't make a lot of sense for them. I liked Suggs coming out of college, but I now question whether his abilities translate to the NBA. I now consider him a potential bust. So I don't think Orlando would have heartburn over losing him and actually the Wolves might consider not asking to include him. Getting a talented young big like Naz along with two additional draft picks, including #19 in a deep draft, should appeal to a team like Orlando in early rebuild mode. But how does DLO fit? Not sure. Perhaps his main value to Orlando would be his expiring contract.
6. DLO for Lonzo Ball. I'd do this deal in a heartbeat. Ball would be the perfect fit as the Wolves starting PG. Would Chicago do this deal? Perhaps. They might be concerned about how well and quickly Lonzo will come back next season and the Bulls are clearly in win-now mode. DLO's expiring contract would also give the Bulls salary flexibility after next season. This is my dream deal. But alas, I don't think the Bulls would do it. Perhaps we could include a couple of our 2nd-round picks to entice them.
7. DLO & Naz for Kennard and Hartenstein. I wouldn't do this deal. I'd rather just sign Hartenstein as a free agent. As long as we have Beasley, Kennard wouldn't fit.
8. DLO, Naz, 2nd-round pick for Portis. I wouldn't do this deal. I wanted Rosas to sign Portis two years ago, but instead he re-signed Juancho. Nevertheless, that's way too much to give up for Portis. Note that Portis probably looks particularly good playing on a championship team with the best player in the League, Giannis.
