The consensus was that he left Miami to return to Cleveland in 2014 because he saw a better chance to win in Cleveland playing with the young Kyrie at the top of his game and Kevin Love in his prime rather than the 32 year old Wade who was really declining by then and the 30 year old Bosh. An AI search shows that Wade had “significant chronic knee issues in 2014.” Wade also missed games in that final season with LeBron because of a foot nerve issue and intense migraines. The Heat had just lost to the Spurs in the finals and LeBron isn’t the sort to take the tough road.

LeBron is a mercenary who doesn’t look for challenges or even the biggest paycheck. He looks for the easiest path to win and that’s what led him to the Sixers as I initially thought he would. Like others, I was swayed over time by the media momentum and comments by LeBron himself that he was looking for fun, golf, personal satisfaction or family priorities. But in the end, LeBron was just looking for the best chance to win and by his calculation it was the Sixers. I think his calculation is spot on. Now I have another reason besides Embiid and Philadelphia sports fans to root against the Sixers. .

What a ridiculous take. If Lebron would of just stuck with the Cavs this whole time, he ends up with a KG like career where they put garbage around you for so long that they have to trade you out of pity. His legacy is so much better from leaving the Cavs the first time.

I think your response is pretty ridiculous because it misses the point. LeBron didn’t just make the choice to leave Cleveland. He made sure that he ended up in a place with the players he believed would give him the best chance at a championship. And he returned to Cleveland when he saw the Cavs as a much better bet to win than the Heat after teasing the Miami fans when he got there with talk about winning six championships. He’s certainly free to make those choices, but there’s no getting around the fact that LeBron is a mercenary who has repeatedly left one team for another based on which team he believed had the best chance of winning. Is there any mystery about why he just left the Lakers? He’s a great player with lots of championship rings but there’s a discount on the value of those rings in my view compared to others who took a more difficult path. For example, speaking of KG, I give him extra credit for his one championship ring because he put a high premium on loyalty by never forcing a trade from the Wolves and ultimately ending up with a team, the Celtics, he didn’t choose. Dwayne Wade never left the Heat, MJ never left the Bulls. Hakeem never left the Rockets. They all went though a lot of lean years before it all came together.

He left because the cavs front office was so terrible that he was never going to win as long as he was there. All those players you listed stayed with their teams because the front offices were good enough to put good teams around them.

I don't think there's much of a different in talent between KG and Tim Duncan. The big difference is that TD had a great infrastructure around him and KG had garbage. While you might give KG extra credit for his title, nobody out there has KG near TD as far as all time players is concerned. When i think if to switched their careers around it probably ends the same for both guys
