Indeed, we were 17th in 3-point makes just two years ago thanks largely to Ricky Adelman's offense and having a healthy Kevin Love and Kevin Martin. Guess who was feeding them a bunch of those shots? Ricky.
Ricky's primary disadvantage is that he himself is not a prolific 3-point shooter while many of his PG contemporaries are. But that doesn't mean he can't get others good looks from beyond the arc.
Here are Wolves on/off 3-point shooting numbers during the time Ricky has been here
2011-12 Ricky on court 21.4 3PA with 33.1 3P%
2011-12 Ricky off court 23.1 3PA with 33.4 3P%
2012-13 on 16.1 3PA with 30.7 3P%
2012-13 off 20.8 3PA with 30.4 3P%
2013-14 on 20.3 3PA with 35.8 3P%
2013-14 off 22.9 3PA with 31.1 3P%
2014-15 on 14.2 3PA with 30.8 3P%
2014-15 off 15.7 3PA with 33.7 3P%
2015-16 on 13.9 3PA with 26.9 3P%
2015-16 off 17.9 3PA with 37.1 3P%
So every year Wolves have shot clearly less 3-pointers with Ricky on court vs. when he is off court and only once their 3-point shooting percentage was clearly better with Ricky. That was 2013-14 when he played majority of his minutes with Love and Martin that were by far the best 3-point shooters that Wolves had.
This years numbers are awful at least partially because Ricky plays plenty of minutes with KG and Tay but still it looks like teams have adjusted to Ricky's passing and are staying close with shooters when he drives to basket. This means clearly less opportunities for finding open 3-pointers.
Of course we can have offense with more three pointers even with Ricky like Adelman's corner offense was but I have hard time to see that we would have elite 3-point shooting offense with Ricky running point.
