The end of game offense is trash. Individual hero ball. Does Finch seriously endorse this? Two games in a row where we have blown leads inexcusably.
Something has to give.
The entire franchise is wrapped up in Anthony Edwards. It's his to do with it as he pleases. As long as he's scoring 40+, or even 30+, if he wants to play hero ball down the stretch of games... that's what's going to happen.
Amazing player. Fun player. But this is something he's going to have to figure out eventually.
It’s time for a torch passing to our version of Phil Jackson who imposes an offensive structure that harnesses our star player’s individual talent to better help the team. Not the Kurt Rambis triangle of course. . But something. Move the ball!!!!
Yep.
I'm not advocating for canning Finch, but if that's what it ultimately takes to level up Anthony Edwards... I'm all for it. Finch has set himself for another NBA head coaching gig.
After all, how many players/coaches stuck together beyond the star player's first 6+ years in the "modern" NBA? Tim Duncan... and... ummm...
So to torture myself I started rewatching this game, got through the first half last night, we'll see if I finish it up.
A few observations:
1) they may have officially lost this game when the clock hit double zeros but they really lost it at the end of the first half, and honestly maybe it was even earlier when the score was still 9-2 after 6 minutes in the first. But I'll get back to this
2) Ant was fantastic the whole first half. I know we're all salty with him after Phoenix and then this game, but he was just great all the way through the end of the half (again, I haven't started the 2nd). The problem is he was the only one who really came to play winning basketball. His shot making was obviously great to see and very important, but his play making was locked in- I counted 6 potential assist, quickly getting off doubles, penetration to draw doubles and then kicks outs. It was exactly the type of control of the game they need him to exhibit. He had two bad turnovers that need to be corrected, but fact is no one else came to play on offense and that's why this wasn't a blowout from the jump.
3) this was an AWFUL Jaden McDaniels game, just terrible. To my eye he got the iffy offensive charge called against him and he got saulky the rest of the game.... Grow up man
4) also a terrible possibly even worse Julius game. So many missed reads, tunnel vision and stupid turnovers. He's been great so far but I'm worried about his return to what killed him in the Thunder series. If this is the regression we get from him, he should not be long for this roster.
