Collins opted into the last year of his deal so yeah I doubt he will be back after this season.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 1:41 pmI can’t argue with your assessment of the Jazz front office. I’ll be surprised if Markennen or Collins is on the Jazz roster to start the 2026-27 season. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of those two moved before the start of next season.Monster wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 12:32 pmThis isn't a knock on your idea but I'll believe Utah wanting to be competitive when it happens. They have Markennen and Collins already so I don't know why they would want Randle.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 12:06 pm
It’s been reported that Utah’s management wants to be competitive next season. If so, they certainly would have had interest in Randle. If the Wolves were interested in swapping Randle for Sexton (and other salary match) I don’t think it was Utah standing in the way. Instead, it was likely Randle. Since we could only trade him as part of a sign-and-trade, Randle’s would have had to agree to go to Utah and there’s no way he’d agree to go to a losing/rebuilding team at this stage in his career.
I'm trying to think of anything particularly worthwhile the Jazz have done after the Mitchell and Gobert trades. There have been a few headscratching deals and this is the latest. I get maybe clearing out Sexton for their young guards but being forced to give up even the future 2nd (while maybe relatively inconsequential) to do it seems...not like something a smart front office would do. Oh well. How long before they need to auction Markennen off to the highest bidder? The clock is ticking IMO.

I guess the Dallas GM really is an idiot. Who with a fully functioning brain would bring in DLO to be around prized rookie Cooper Flagg? DLO will make around 6.5 per season, which is about what his worth has always been.

There was only one other team who had the ability to do this without our help and that was Brooklyn. That was the market.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 5:42 pmNot a bad counterpoint, but not persuasive to me. I’ll just come back to the market. TC had to know that other teams were poised to offer Naz something in the neighborhood of what he gave Naz. So whatever you and I think of Naz v Aldama, it’s the market that sets a player’s contract value. If I’m wrong and TC just offered Naz the $125M contract without any basis in what he knew others were offering or poised to offer, then he’s a terrible PBO.
Naz got signed because they're betting way too much on him.

I thought the Jackson contract was high, too. I just listened to the Mismatch podcast this morning, however, and Vernon was on there saying that Jackson just missed eligibility for a $350M extension. He came in 17th for the 15 All NBA spots, which would have triggered the much larger extension. I'm sure Memphis in a meh year was rooting behind the scenes for Jackson NOT to make All NBA.kekgeek wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 5:27 pmCounter point. I’d say $120M is reasonable for Naz.kekgeek wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 5:18 pm BREAKING: The Memphis Grizzlies and All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. are expected to agree on a five-year, $240 million maximum renegotiation-and-extension, sources tell ESPN. Head of CAA Basketball Austin Brown and CAA agent Max Saidman negotiated the new agreement with the Grizzlies.
The guy has some good things going for him... he's averaged 22+ ppg and remains an All NBA defensive talent entering his prime. That's a rare mix. Conversely, his playoff runs and poor rebounding and a general lack of physicality have been huge flaws.
As for Reid, I think it's a bit of a make-good overpay... but not an egregious one. By comparison... as noted, Aldama is making $52M over the next 3 years. His numbers have improved each of his first four seasons in the L... and were very Naz Reid-like last season.

Took them two years to figure that out though, after losing Brown and KCP in free agency the past two summers.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:32 amSome teams realize you can't stand pat in this league.

Well they just got Brown back and it seems they cut bait with KCP at the right time.rapsuperstar31 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:34 amTook them two years to figure that out though, after losing Brown and KCP in free agency the past two summers.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:32 amSome teams realize you can't stand pat in this league.

True, but they could have easily three-peat had they not been cheap.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:35 amWell they just got Brown back and it seems they cut bait with KCP at the right time.rapsuperstar31 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:34 amTook them two years to figure that out though, after losing Brown and KCP in free agency the past two summers.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:32 am

Do max contracts like Ant's follow the same trajectory as the cap? Will his raises be 10% this season and 7 % next season? I think that is how it works.
I wonder if Naz’s contract can be adjusted to be a 7% raise next summer or if he locked in to 8%.
