It will be hard to get him without having a bevy of first round picks to offer, but the Wolves should try. We can put together a package including Beringer, Dillingham, Randle, Shannon, and NAZ, plus whatever 1st round picks we can currently offer. Giannis replaces Randle in the starting lineup and is our rim protector when Rudy goes to the bench.
The picks we can trade are 2026 first and 2033 first this summer.
Oof.

Would you see him as pure insurance or as replacing someone in the current rotation? I think Mike Conley is fine right now in the more limited role Finch has him in (versus starting) and I don't see Paul as an upgrade there. He'd certainly be better than Dillingham, but why would he sign here to be the 3rd string PG behind Ant and Conley?

And I hope after last night we can put a nail in the coffin of "DDV is the starting PG" narrative that's I've heard and seen from other Wolves followers and pundits (not here so much). Ant is the starting PG. Period. Point Ant is no longer a notion, but the reality, for better or worse.
That’s right, Q. Ant is our de facto PG in the mold of MJ, Kobe and Wade. That’s what I’ve always anticipated would happen. It makes sense and it’s a model that’s worked extremely well in the past. The question is whether Ant can develop the lead guard skills those SGs had. That’s clearly Finchy’s bet. Using the MJ comparison, Donte can be Ant’s Paxon/Kerr but with more skills. Can Jaden step up and be Ant’s Pippen?

By almost every measure, Jaden has taken a leap this year.

Giannis is the sort of player you consider giving up five 1st round picks to get. Five picks for a 30-year old Giannis to pair with a 24 year old Ant makes a lot more sense than five picks for a 30-year old Gobert to pair with a 19 year old Ant. Rudy’s been great for us, but I’ll always view that trade as a bad value proposition for the Wolves. Without picks to given, we’d clearly have to give up Jaden to get Giannis, which is not something I’d do. I also wonder whether Giannis’s body is breaking down. I don’t see Giannis ending up here. I like our team. Q posted some compelling stats about how well our starting five are playing right now. I still see Ant improving through the season as our de facto PG. Clark is looking better and better. Meanwhile, I still see Rob and/or Shannon stepping up and helping at some point.

It's still really hard to for him to leap much more with Ant and Julius blocking his path. I hope he gets a legitimate chance to be #2 some day.

Unfortunately...

I have to think that if the Bucks sell Giannis... it's for a rebuild. And the Wolves can't come close with their lack of long-term assets and prospects. The Bucks can get a legit high upside prospect (or multiple) and multiple high draft picks for Giannis. The Wolves can't offer ANY of that.
All fair points Abe but Gannis is also going to be a factor in where he goes. How many contending teams can offer a rebuilding treasure trove, and is the answer exclusively OKC?

That’s been my thinking also, Cool. Randle has been great for us, but I think his ball-dominant presence is blocking Jaden from taking that next step into the role of our #2. I think he’d thrive in that role to the benefit of the entire team.

I simply meant those two guys are going to get the highest usage rate. I wasn't saying Jaden is better than Ant. Jeez, get a grip.
